Normally when I love a book, but it has an awful cover, much like Treyvon I say something along the lines of ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’. However, I feel like the cover describes this book perfectly, yes it’s kind of cheesy with the big buff guy staring sternly at you, pecs and biceps bulging. Yet…when I see it, it makes me smile, so although it isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing, or the sexiest cover I still kind of like it anyway. Which, in a nutshell describes my feelings for this book. I really enjoyed it, it was cheesy, over the top and yet I ate it up and finished the last page with a smile on my face.
This is the second book in the Kaliszians series and Eidem hits us again with a mixture of sci-fi, mysticism and romance. Although this is a strange combination and logically it doesn’t make much, if any, sense I like these books enough that I work a little harder than I normally would at suspending my disbelief. So when my brain is screaming at me that it doesn’t make sense, which believe me happens a loy, I just tell it to shut the hell up and I continued enjoying the book.
One of the things I liked was the romance. As always it was really sweet and I like that it doesn’t just jump in, it builds itself up. Despite Treyvon being a big tough alien, with more muscles then the guy on the cover, he’s actually a big ol’ marshmallow when it comes to the heroine. So, if you fancy some great escapism, give this book a try, although I recommend you read the Nikhil the first book in the series first. In fact, I recommend you start at the beginning, this series is a spin off of the Tornian series.
