“One thing is for sure, they have chemistry.”
~ Under the Covers
I’ve been gobbling up this author’s work lately. The reason why is his style of writing. There is something very raw and gritty about the way he writes that speaks to me. His characters are flawed and human. The relationships depicted I can picture happening. And lastly…. it’s just plain hot!
We met both of these characters in book 1 and I wasn’t sure how I was going to like this scenario because ultimately one of the main characters has slept with the others’ brother. Granted it was a hot one night stand they had, but I just couldn’t get past it for a while. Nevertheless, I forged ahead. And I was pleasantly surprised at the ease with which the author turned my thinking around. I never felt turned off by these two. If anything, I was only concerned about their individual differences and in the ways they worked together. One thing is for sure, they have chemistry. And it was cute to see it grow so hesitantly in a way because they were friends first and foremost. Going from that to benefits, to a relationship was just a lot of fun to see.
I may even go as far as saying I enjoyed this book more. There was something endearing about Raymond’s vulnerability as he’s exploring a side of his sexuality he never had a chance to. And he knows he wants to explore it with David but he also knew when not to go begging for attention from someone who wasn’t ready to be with him. I also loved that both characters were so different. It would normally make no sense for them to be together as they seem to not have much in common on the outside. But they worked! And I forgot about my hang ups about David and I just enjoyed them together.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing more from this series and I’ll be on the look out for other books by Santino Hassell for sure.
