#RollBackWeek Review: Forever, Interrupted by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This story is quite a bit what you would expect by reading that title and it is not a spoiler (since it happens at the very beginning) to tell you what it’s about. Elsie is happily married, still on her “honeymoon” period after just being married for 10 days, when her husband is tragically killed in an accident. This is her story of grief and moving forward, as well as how she got there in the first place. And it’s a bit different than what you would think due to the fact her husband’s family never knew about her, or their marriage.

Told in the popular back and forth in time, we get to slowly uncover how Ben swept Elsie off her feet, a bit insta-love if you ask me, but somehow it didn’t bother me as it usually would. I guess knowing from the beginning the outcome of the story it just made their romance to be an impulsive one that spans all of 6 months. Meet, date, marry, death. Seeing those happy moments only made knowing the outcome couldn’t change that much harder.

This story is very character driven and if you are not on board with the heroine you may not enjoy it as much. Although there’s nothing that makes Elsie stand out from a crowd, I found her to be a character I could relate to. I do think there should’ve been a bigger struggle with the whole not telling the family issue. Maybe it’s the fact that their relationship was all so new, maybe it’s the fact that Elsie already had a bad relationship with her family. I don’t think that was addressed enough.

I’ve been a fan of this author for a while now because of the WAY she tells her stories. Her writing is very simple, yet very emotional. And I think for the most part she manages to convey the right emotions in the circumstances we are faced with. Not always, but quite often.

I’ve wanted to read FOREVER, INTERRUPTED for a while now. This was her debut novel and it was the last one I had left to read by her. I can’t say it’s my favorite, but as I was expecting it doesn’t deal in happily ever afters. In the end, I was satisfied with where this story ends up.
