Review: Demon Angel by Meljean Brook

Hugh doesn’t realise when he meets Lilith that he will continue to be fascinated with her for many lifetimes to come. Both are on opposite sides, as a demon Lilith is sent to tempt and trick men into sin and Hugh as a Guardian is there to protect humankind. Their odd almost friendship spans centuries…until Hugh decides to fall and become human again.

Meljean Brook is one of my favourite authors; I love her Iron Seas series, so I decided to try out her Paranormal Romance series, The Guardian. I admit, it didn’t reach my admittedly high expectations, but, there were lots of aspects of this book that I intrigued me and left me wanting to find out more.

First of all, the main reason I didn’t rate this book more highly; I found some of it confusing. I don’t know whether I am just slow, but I found the reasons for some of the characters actions confusing, when it seemed like I should have understood, I feel sometimes further clarity was needed. This confusion left me feeling a little bewildered through out most the book.

But, what I did enjoy was Lilith and Hugh. The star crossed lovers. Lilith was a charismatic heroine, delightfully wicked without crossing the line to evil and Hugh had the strong, silent, stoic thing going on. Together they smouldered. The sexual chemistry and connection between them was great and that is what kept me reading, even when I wasn’t really sure what was happening.

What I also liked about this book, was the world and characters that Brook has created with the Guardians, demons, vampires and humans. I can’t wait to read on and see what is going to happen next and how it is going to develop.

Although this is not my favourite book by Meljean Brook, it is definitely an interesting start to The Guardians series and I look forward to starting the next book.
