~PATRICIA A. RASEY~

Congrats on your newest release Hawk, book two of the Sons of Sangue series! For those who aren’t familiar with your work yet, could you please tell us a little about this series?

Sons of Sangue started with the book Viper, release last summer. It seemed it was a new twist on vampires and add the hot biker flareโ€”I thought it might be a good combination. Good friend Lara Adrian had suggested I return to writing vampires. She knew I loved bikersโ€”so when she suggested I try vampire bikersโ€”I knew it was a great idea for me. Viper starts out as the MC Pres, and his twin Hawk is the Vice Pres. Whatโ€™s hotter than twin vamps that ride motorcycles? I love alpha males and these boys have it in spades.

How would you describe HAWK in five words?

Alpha, stubborn, egotistical, hot, sizzlingโ€ฆwho melted my heart. ๐Ÿ˜‰

How much research did you do for this novel?ย

I did a lot of research over the years when it came to Vlad Tepes because he always intrigued me. So I continue to look up his history. And biker? I will read anything on the Hells Angels because I find them a fascinating MC group. My research centered around them, as well as doing research of the area and some research into police work. My brother and my son being in police work helps in that area.

Do you have any model/actor inspiration while writing this story?

For Viper, it was probably Bollywood actor John Abraham. There were some pictures with him on a motorcycle and long hair that did it for me. For Hawk, it was rugby player Stuart Reardon. The man is about as handsome and rugged as they come.

Many readers have become obsessed with biker romances. What was the thing that drew you to write the Sons of Sangue? Why did you want to tell their story?

Well, as I said above, Lara Adrian had been trying to get me to return to my love of vampires. I was pretty much loving romantic suspense and writing about bikers at the time. We were sightseeing one day when I saw an MC on the side of the mountain and a lookout point. When I started talking about themโ€”and the knowledge I had with them, she saidโ€”why not do Vampire Bikers then. And I just saidโ€”now, that I could do. After that, Viper came into my head along with the rest of the Sons of Sangue and didnโ€™t let go. I love these bad ass bikers. And I canโ€™t thank Lara enough for her suggestion. Sheโ€™s a great inspiration to me.

Biker romances often have a lot of violence in them. Where would you say your book lies on the spectrum from tame to extreme and why did you decide on this particular level on violence in your book?

I think my books are lighter on the violence than some of the biker stories out there right now. I think because I aim at the romance crowd, I prefer to hint more at the lifestyle than have it in your face style. I donโ€™t want to take away from the romance of the storyโ€”which I think is crucial for me because I am a sucker for a great romance.

How involved were you in the process of creating the cover for HAWK? ย Any fun tidbits you can tell us?

With Viper, I gave Frauke (CrocDesigns.com) an idea of what I wanted. But I canโ€™t take credit for that one at all. When I opened itโ€”I instantly loved it. I asked for a minor change, but that was it. With Hawk, I went through a lot trying to get the perfect cover. I originally thought I wanted a model on the cover. My friend, Kim Rocha, contacted both models for me. I even had 2 yeses to appear on Hawk. But in the end though, I sent Frauke a photo of what I was looking for. When she sent back the coverโ€”she nailed it. First try. I didnโ€™t need any revisions and was pleased I opted to not go with either model.

The warmer months are approaching so we hope you are stocking up on some summer reads! What book(s) would you recommend to take to the beach and why?

Anything by Lara Adrian. Not because sheโ€™s my good friend, but because she is that good. A true talent. Sandra Brown is one of my favorite authors to read. As well as anything by Lori Foster.

What’s next for Patricia Rasey?

I have a novella entitle Heat Wave coming out this summer that is the sequel to my paranormal novella Spirit Me Away. I am finishing that up as we speak. Then itโ€™s off to Gypsyโ€™s book, the third book in the Sons of Sangue. I plan to spend a lot more time with my MC boys.ย J

Thank you for having me here! I certainly appreciate you taking the time to Interview me.

Thank you for stopping by!

HAWK

Kaleb โ€œHawkโ€ Tepes, as president of the Sons of Sangue and descendant of Vlad III, needs to keep his head focused on club business. Trouble is someone wants to divest him of it for a crime he committed against his vampire predecessors. He canโ€™t afford distractions, especially those that come in the form of a five-foot-two sprite named Suzi, who once belonged to his nephew. In a moment of weakness, he makes a snap decision that can only spell trouble. Now faced with the one person who wants him dead, Kaleb must make the ultimate sacrifice or chance losing the only woman he truly desired forever.

Suzi Stevens has tried hard to put her past behind her and move forward. The one man she yearns for over all others, believes her to be nothing but cold-hearted. Hearing that someone has tried to behead him, she shelves past prejudices and rushes to his side, needing to see for herself that heโ€™s all right. What she doesnโ€™t count on is Hawkโ€™s demand to take her as his personal blood donor. Now forced to endure his company, she fears losing her heart for all eternity to the one person who has the power to crush her.

Excerpt

โ€œI didnโ€™t come here to bring up old wounds.โ€

โ€œThen why are you here?โ€

โ€œBecause I fooled myself into thinking I caredโ€ฆโ€ She stopped herself from saying about you. โ€œI heard about Wheezer and Red Dot. I had to come to see if you were all right. Iโ€™m sorry now that I did. I shouldโ€™ve let you wallow in your self-hatred.โ€

He stared hard at her, enough so she wished she could read what was going on behind those black hypnotic eyes. She wasnโ€™t sure if he wanted to leap the counter and strangle her, or kiss her senseless. Though she preferred the latter, Suzi knew the repercussions of those actions would crush her. Before she could stop him, he vaulted the bar effortlessly and now stood mere inches from her. She could smell Jack Danielโ€™s on him, that and his intoxicating musk. Her heart nearly leapt from her chest.

Kaleb leaned in, his nose brushing the soft skin beneath her right ear, causing a flutter in her lower abdomen. His canines scraped across the delicate flesh, telling her he was a hairsbreadth away from biting her.

โ€œI find Iโ€™m ravenous.โ€

โ€œYour problem, not mine.โ€ Suzi stiffened her spine, ready for him to do as he desired regardless of her wishes. โ€œI didnโ€™t come here to offer you nourishment.โ€

His right arm snaked around her, keeping her from fleeing. The fingers of his free hand toyed with the glass vial. โ€œYouโ€™re a donor. You offer me what I need.โ€

โ€œI canโ€™t stop you from feeding.โ€

โ€œI hear a but in there.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m retired.โ€

Kaleb stood back, releasing Suzi to stare down at her. Then he chuckled. His mirth misplaced given the situation.

โ€œI donโ€™t find that funny.โ€

โ€œNo?โ€ He raised one black brow. โ€œI find that rich. Suzi Stevens who offered her blood up to any Son who asked.โ€

Her brows drew together. โ€œItโ€™s what a donor does.โ€

โ€œYes, their blood โ€ฆ but not always do they spread their thighs.โ€

โ€œI am so done here. Go fuck yourself, Hawk.โ€

When she turned to leave, Kaleb gripped her wrist and spun her back into his hold so that her back nestled against the erection he didnโ€™t try to conceal. She knew he might not like it, might even hate the idea, but he desired her.

โ€œI told you, Iโ€™m hungry,โ€ he whispered. His warm breath passed over the shell of her ear. An ache settled between her thighs. Sheโ€™d die first.

โ€œAnd I told you I retired myself.โ€

โ€œThen I just un-retired you.โ€

And with that, he sank his fangs into the soft spot just beneath her ear.
