~ JEANIENE FROST ~
Hi Jeaniene and welcome to Under the Covers! ย We are so excited to have you here again and we are sad at the same time because this is the end of an era. ย The Night Huntress series is coming to a close.
Thanks so much for having me! Iโm sad about the Night Huntress series ending, too, but I hope readers of Up From The Grave will feel that Iโve given Cat and Bones the sendoff they deserve.
Writing a series like this, you must’ve grown to know these characters very well and they’ve been part of your everyday life. ย What will you miss the most about switching gears and writing about new ones? ย
I started writing about Cat and Bones back in early 2003, so yes, theyโve been a part of my life for a long time. Iโll miss a lot of things about writing them, like Catโs sarcastic humor and Bonesโs unwavering devotion. A lot of heroes need time to realize their true feelings for the heroine. Bones never did. He knew he loved Cat from the start. She was the one who had to struggle to accept her feelings for him.
Cat and Bones are beloved characters for many readers. As the series comes to an end and you reflect on how they have changed your life, what are your thoughts on the Night Huntress series?
*grin* You donโt really think I can articulate all that in one paragraph, do you? Cat and Bones werenโt just the first characters I cared about enough to finally realize my childhood dream of finishing a novel. Their books also launched a new career for me, allowing me to quit my old day job and become a full-time writer. I thank God every day for putting them into my head (or my dreams, to be exact) because in addition to writing all the stories I had to tell about them, the success of the Night Huntress series allowed me to write about other characters and worlds, too.
Share with us your favorite moment in the series from Bones, Cat, Ian and Spade.
Wow, thatโs so hard! Seven books into the Night Huntress series, Iโd better have lots of favorite moments or Iโm not doing my characters justice while writing them. As a quick, very incomplete rundown, I loved Bones training Cat when they first met in Halfway to the Grave. She was so surly, and he was merciless in teasing her over so many different things. Cat assuming Spade was a bad guy when they met him and her bluffing him with a sharp rock always makes me laugh. Then thereโs Ian playing matchmaker in his very twisted way when Spade and Denise were having relationship issues in First Drop of Crimson. Cat finally trusting Bones to change her into a vampire in Destined for an Early Grave will always be a favorite, and pretty much every moment with them in Up From The Grave. I knew it was the end, so each scene with Cat and Bones meant a lot to me while writing it.
How much did Chapter 32 affect your life with fans asking you to sign books on that special chapter? ๐
Itโs the fastest way to make me blush! Seriously, I never in a million years thought that chapter would be so popular with readers. In fact, before that book was released, I was so convinced it would alienate readers, I attempted to go back and censor it in edits. My editor, however, wouldnโt let me. Ever since, sheโs been able to brag that she was right and I was wrong.
You take readers on a rollercoaster ride in UP FROM THE GRAVE! ย What was the hardest for you to write?
:::Mild spoiler warning::: The scene at the pier where Cat confronts Madigan and things go horribly wrong. Readers later see that it works out, but for a while, Cat didnโt know that, and it felt like her emotions were bleeding all over the page as I wrote.
What do you think is it about Bones that has made so many of us melt every time we read about him?
I think it varies from reader to reader. Some like his honesty, his accent, and his sexiness, while others like his protectiveness, his sense of humor, and his loyalty. Donโt get me wrong, Bones also has a dark side, but because readers see him through the eyes of someone who loves him, that often gets overlooked. Bones through Bonesโs point of view in the Reckoning novella came off as more ruthless, according to quite a few readers who contacted me after they read it. Of course, that was also before he met Cat. Falling in love tends to change people, doesnโt it?ย Maybe thatโs part of his appeal, too. Readers know that Bones is dangerous, but not ever to Cat, although she doesnโt believe that in the beginning of their relationship.
What is next for you and what novels can we look forward to? Any novellas?
All of my future releases are novels. I donโt intend to do any more novellas because it takes me almost as long to write one of those as it does to write an entire book, so itโs not the best use of my time. After Up From The Grave is The Beautiful Ashes, the first book in the Broken Destiny series, coming out the end of August. This is a NA (New Adult) paranormal romance featuring an entirely different world of supernatural creatures. After that is the final Night Prince novel, title not yet determined, featuring Vlad and Leila. And after that is another novel featuring a character from the Night Huntress universe. I donโt know which character that will be yet, but Ian fans seem to have their fingers crossed ๐
Yes, we want Ian!!! LOL ย Thank you so much for sharing with us and our readers and we can’t wait for everyone to read UP FROM THE GRAVE. ย They’re going to love it! ย And WE can’t wait to see what you do next and go on the next ride with you.
Thank you again for having me and for spreading the news about Up From The Grave! Iโm so glad to be able to share Cat and Bonesโs last adventure with readers. I hope they enjoy where their final conclusion takes them.
Thereโs always one more grave to dig.
Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out warโฆ
A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than deathโฆbecause the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences. And if they fail, their livesโand those of everyone they hold dearโ will be hovering on the edge of the grave.

My fav moment was in book 2 when Bones came back. That was sweet.
When Bones comes back and Cat doesn’t believe he’s real at first…heartbreaking!
When Bones comes back from “death” and Cat can’t believe he really is there and doesn’t want to wake up. Then when she realises he is back. And even lets Annette kiss him. So heartbreaking and well, also heartwarming!
It’s hard to choose a favorite moment. I’ve loved this series and am very sad to see it end. One favorite moment. I’ve loved all the tension between Bones and Tate. I hope Tate finds someone for himself.
When Cat realizes her uncle’s been watching her and calls him back by his full name. Total Mom moment where she asserts her authority over her former boss.
Gah! I’m tearing up just reading this interview. I’m gonna be a complete mess reading the final book ๐
There are so many great moments in this series it’s hard to pick favorites so I’ll just go with what hooked me…the beginning of the series when Cat was out trying to kill vampires and meets her match with Bones.
I love where Bones tells Cat if you run from me, I will chase you and I’ll find you, from Half to the Grave. There are so many good quotes from this series, I laughed so hard about where he lied to her about not wearing panties. I am going to miss this series so much it’s an auto but for me.
There are so many but I think it goes all the way back to the beginning when she’s the slayer and trying to pick him up in the bar. I too will miss this series. Thank you.
There are way to many favorite moments in this series to pick just one! But I’ll go with when Bones comes back! So aw worthy
I love these books and I’ve only been reading them for a year.
I loved when Bones walks into a wedding as a groomsman & surprises Cat in book 2!
I don’t have a fave moment just yet as I’m still collecting all the books in this series.
It’s so hard to pick just one, so I’m going to start at the beginning and choose when Cat and Bones first meet.
Definitely, their first meeting. I love how the sparks flew.
When Bones gets jealous over Vlad! And all other Bones and Vlad moments! I love their banter ๐
My favorite is definitely when they first met.

I enjoyed reading through the interview. It brought back fond memories just thinking about scenes from the books. I think one of my favorites that i remember clearly is the first time they saw each other after Cat left in the second book.
I haven’t read this series yet, but I think I better check it out!
Oh gosh my favorite moment? I don’t remember it’s been a while since I have read it ๐ unfortunately. But I am sad that the series is ending, I am currently on book 3 and I know that I will miss Cat and Bones. I think my favorite scene is the one with her mother when Bones meets her ๐
I’m so excited cuz I’m finally starting this series! I’m looking forward to finding my own fav moment! Thanks so much for sharing ๐
I can’t pick just one…but I the first to pop in my head (other than ch 32) is when bones found cat again leading and training her own team
I really enjoy this series but need to get caught up on the last 2 books ๐
Some of my favorite moments are the ones a geeky fan like me treasures, the extras you find… I love the deleted scenes. I actually really enjoyed the alternate beginning to Halfway to the Grave. Their are several moments, of realization, of purpose, and also that moment when her mom sticks up for her. Knowing the end is nigh, I really feel like going back to the beginning and savoring Cat (and Bones) once again.
I Love when Cat meets Bones and the fun begins.
Chapter 32 is one (if not) the hottest chapter I’ve ever read. Bless her editor for keeping it in
I have not read this series yet and I can see that I’m missing out ๐ Excuse me while I go to Amazon…
Thank you for the giveaway!
I love Chapter 32, but I also love the scene in the first book when Cat finds out just how yummy it feels when Bones bites her.
I am sad to say that I am behind on the series but I enjoy their sparring. Thanks for the giveaway!
There are so many “favorite” moments, it’s hard to pick just one! So I’ll say the moment Cat & Bones first meet because it’s what starts it all. I hate to think about this being the last book, but I’m sure it’ll be fantastic!
Toss between when she takes that first ride with Bones after meeting him … and when he shows up at the wedding. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com
Gosh there are way to many funny, romantic, and awesome moments in this series but i loved when Bones chained her up when they first met and she was trying to convince him she was a half breed. Love this series!!!! Thanks for the giveaway!! ๐
I cannot remember what book it is from, but there is a scene between Bones and Cat where he “feeds” from several different veins on her body during an intense scene between them. It is a very strong, scene, that demonstrates the raw chemistry between them and makes you really fall for the series.
I agree with many of the scenes listed above. I also love the Vlad scenes, he is such a good friend to Cat. The first favorite scene tho that always pops in my head is from This Side of the Grave when Cat is talking to a prisoner and Vlad is over it and causes his head to explode. Cat asks him what happened and Vlad innocently replies โPremature inflammation, happens sometimes. Very embarrassing. I donโt like to talk about it.โ haha
I’ve not read the series, so no fav moments yet. But… I think it’s high time I read it! Thanks for the giveaway!
I think one of my favorite Cat & Bones scenes is where he is teaching her how to fight.
I have two scenes that stick with me from Cat & Bones. First one is in the first book, when Bones has Cat chained up in the cave and he gets her eyes to glow for the first time (while her heart is still beating!) and the second one is when Cat has to pretend to be with Tate to catch the bad guys and Tate takes advantage of the situation to get his hands and mouth on Cat, when it’s all over and Bones goes ape shit and has to touch and taste every place Tate did (I actually swooned just a tad on that one >.<)

I love when Cat and Bones first met in the bar. The fight they have when she tries to kill him. I’ve enjoyed seeing their relationship grow.
I absolutely cannot choose my favorite moment. Maybe in the first 20ยฐ in UFTG when Tyler meets Majestic.
Thank you for the hours spent in providing us with this exciting series. I look forward to many more books to come.
I’m just starting the series. I know, I know – but at least I have something great to read NOW and it’s ending for everyone else…
I can’t choose just one, so top 3.
1. Chapter 32. Need I say more.
2. Book 2, The wedding and her seeing Bones for the first time.
3. And Book 3 when Cat & Vlad(my fav) are on the ledge and he is making her not do something stupid. That is what made me fall in love with Vlad. (Don’t want to give away any spoilers) But all you diehard fans know what I am talking about.
Sad to see the series end, but so glad for all the great stories. Can’t wait till Tuesday to read this book.
Oh oh I totally agree with u n book 1 is awesome I’m currently rereading it after so long
I haven’t read this series, but keep hearing how good it is.
Hahaha!! Karen G., I love the Premature inflammation scene!
Ian! Ian! Ian! Pretty, pretty pretty please with a cherry on top! ๐
I love the first time cat and bones slept together in the cave…it was a lil funny and interesting
I love when Cat and Bones get married. Its seriouss but so funny when Cat startsbto undo all Bones’s efforts.
This is so hard to choose just one! But I would have to choose when Bones came back after Cat thought he was dead. It was such a relief!
I love this series! It’s really hard to pick favorites. I always loved the banter & snarky comments between Vlad & Bones. They cracked me up! I love Vlad. I also really liked that first time Bones used his fang on Cat in “that place”. Wow. That was a memorable sex scene ๐ lol
Fantastic interview!
So much to love about this series and I enjoyed many of the scenes that have been mentioned, but one of the one that made me laugh and I thought was incredibly sexy was when Bones licks Cat’s blood off the bottle at the wedding. Another fave was when Vlad talked to Cat at the cliff, I think it set the tone for his character, and I love him. Just one more…when Bones catches Justina in the ‘act’ with Rodney…cracked me up. Thank you for the giveaway and good luck to everyone. Also, thank you to Jeaniene Frost for many enjoyable hours of reading and much success in the future!
I don’t have a favorite as I’ve not yet begun the series ๐ But I am very much looking forward to it!
Thanks for the interview, I haven’t read this series but I am starting to read more PNR lately.
Any interaction with Cat’s uncle (especially when he’s stretching the rules but wants everything to appear very straitlaced and above board).
It is hard to pick just one, so I’d say when the met, that started it all.
Love these two, I hope we get a snippet of them in future books.
Great interview! Ashamed to say that I haven’t read this series yet, but it’s definitely on my TBR list.
Great interview! Ah my favorite moment. Do I really have to choose? I love everything about this series, but I guess if you really insist that I choose I would have to say when Bones has his passionate way with Cat for the very first time.
Haven’t read this series
