One of the things that I have always loved about the True North series is how different each book in the series is. In this case, HEARTLAND is a new adult novel set in college. But we are still getting to explore the concept of family and community as this is the story of Dylan Shipley.
A friends to lovers story with the youngest sibling of a farming family who is struggling to find his footing and how he fits in with the family business. And Chastity who is a runaway from a cult who has very little life experience. After she was taken in by the family next door, Dylan formed a strong friendship bond with her. Now they have to face how those feelings have changed.
This book was both emotional and simple at the same time. Our heroine especially has had to go through a lot and it made their connection deeper. But it’s also a fun story that fit really well with their circumstances and their age. I also loved their drive to do something and their commitment and responsibility.
I may have had some issues with previous characters in the series and how they are portrayed in this book, but at the same time those actions fit their personality.
In the end, this was a heartwarming story. A nice mix between GOODBYE PARADISE and BITTERSWEET. If you are looking for a small town series that is family centered and always delivered a story full of heart then look no further than this series.
