ARC Review: Waiting On You by Kristan Higgins

If you’re interested in a fun – and funny- read that’s lighthearted but still packs an emotional punch, then this book might be a good match for you. ~ Under the Covers

WAITING ON YOU is book three in the Blue Heron series by Kristan Higgins. The funny thing about Colleen O’Rourke is that she spends a lot of time at the bar, dishing out romantic advice to her friends. However, she remains single herself. Why you might ask? Well, the reason is Lucas Campbell.

Ten years ago, Lucas broke Colleen’s heart and she hasn’t really been able to forget about him since then. Now, due to a family emergency, Lucas has returned home and the first person he wants to see is Colleen. Determined to keep her heart out of the line of fire, Colleen doesn’t want to give in to Lucas’s charm, but a girl can only resist for so long.

Much like the previous books in the series, Higgins brings a lot of spunky attitude and flirtatious banter to her books. There’s certainly a lot of fun to be had! Yet at the same time, there’s also an undertone of emotional pain that I think will make readers connect more with the storyline. The reason why Lucas comes home will open up reader’s eyes and see a different side to him than what Colleen sees and I think this is imperative to the hero’s character.

While not my favourite in this series, I do believe that Higgins brings a lot of heart to her stories. Unfortunately, I don’t think I connected with Colleen’s characters as much as I had hoped to. A similar thing happened with Lucas’s character. He is sweet, charming, but he didn’t completely win me over. For me, something was missing and I still haven’t figured out what it is when it came to the romance and characterization. However, if you’re interested in a fun – and funny- read that’s lighthearted but still packs an emotional punch, then this book might be a good match for you.
