ARC Review: Unfixable by Tessa Bailey

 

 

 

 

Fans of Samantha Young’s On Dublin Street will get a kick out of Bailey’s UNFIXABLE. ~ Under the Covers

If you’re familiar with Tessa Bailey’s Line of Duty series, then you’ll already know Willa Peet. She is Ginger’s younger sister from the first book in the series. Willa is a spunky heroine, who has a little bit of an attitude. It’s the perfect personality for Bailey’s new New Adult series that has some angst as well as a sexy hero.

I was very excited about this book because I’m a big fan of Bailey’s Contemporary work and this book had all the elements  that I found interesting: a independent, spunky heroine, a sexy hero and it takes place in Dublin! But I found that there were two things that bugged me about this book.

The first thing is that while Willa is a great heroine, I found that there was way too much internal dialogue that wasn’t necessary. A lot of her observations didn’t really add much to her character and instead really slowed down the pacing of the book. It took a long time for the romance to develop because Willa is so standoffish when she meets Shane. While I think it’s fun and funny to watch at first, once the book passed the 25% and nothing still hadn’t happened, I was suddenly wishing for less monologues and more details about what is making Willa act this way.

This leads into the second issue I had with this book. I thought the author took way too long to really delve into Willa’s problems. She keeps them locked inside for so long that when she says something to Shane (who is generally a nice guy) she can come off as mean, especially since there is no explanation as to why until later. We do get some hints here and there in the beginning about Evan but it’s not quite enough to make up for the fact that she comes across as offensive in some scenes.

Shane Claymore, on the other hand, was a dream. I found him to be sexy, to be fun and to be the light that Willa really needed for her to reach her happily ever after. I just wish the reason why they couldn’t get along in the beginning was more fleshed out because they had some really fun bickering going on.
