Cara McKenna has become one of my favourite authors because of her ability to create such compelling, mysteriously sexy heroes. When I learned that Eric was a convicted felon, the side of me that loves to flirt with danger perked up. Much like me, the heroine Annie has a thing for bad boys. But as the new librarian, Annie puts herself in danger every Friday when she goes to prison to help the inmates there. This is where she meets Eric, a convicted felon serving five years for assault. Annie is drawn to Eric, but knows her job could be in jeopardy if she ever acts upon it so she keeps her feelings at bay. When she learns of his dysgraphia, his vulnerabilities soon become the greatest strength of this book.

Eric’s letters to Annie are poetic, vulnerable and utterly erotic. The letters definitely become my favourite thing about this book. It makes it sexy without having the characters take their clothes off.

Here’s a little taste of his letters:

I bet you taste amazing. I’d treat you so good just to taste even more of it. I’d make you come that way if you’d let me. I’d spoil you so good before I ever asked for anything for myself just so you know I care about you. Maybe if I did a good job you’d reward me. Let me inside you. It’s been so long since I felt that. And you’d be so wet from what I made you feel. I hope I can say that word to you. Wet. That’s probably a rude word to say but I think about it. About making you that way and how incredible it’d feel. Being inside you.

As Annie struggles with her past experiences with an abusive ex boyfriend and accepting Eric’s crime, it creates some tension as Eric’s opinionated sister gets involved. Though I much preferred the first half of the book, McKenna creates a suitable conflict that both intrigues and mystifies readers. I have no doubt that readers will fall hard for Eric.
