“I basically…liked this, you can’t go too far wrong with a book that includes sexy possessive, broody Russians and a hilarious heroine” ~ Under the Covers

I have been waiting for this book ever since I finished the last word of The Professional last year. We all knew that Kresley Cole excels at writing some very sexy alpha males and the sassy females who put up with them. Now we know she can write very sexy, very kinky alpha males with a penchant for toys.
Which, brings me to The Master it’s like the x-rated version of Pretty Woman. Only Richard Gere has transformed from creepy into a gorgeous Russian mobster type whose favourite toy is a ball gag and whip, and Julia Roberts is an heiress on the run from her murderous con man husband, who happens to be in desperate need for cash and so voila escort-dom awaits.
I basically…liked this, you can’t go too far wrong with a book that includes sexy possessive, broody Russians and a hilarious heroine, especially when it’s written by Kresley Cole. However, unlike The Professional it just didn’t have that spark. That instant chemistry that sets Cat and Max apart as a couple I will never forget. Not that they didn’t set the pages alight, their bedroom (and shower, and pool) antics had me panting and drooling like a dog stuck in a closed up car on a hot afternoon (not a good look for me) and I certainly never thought that a chastity belt would get me all hot and bothered…Kresley Cole has taught me new and interesting things about myself!
Bottom line, although I was disappointed with this in comparison to The Professional I still enjoyed it. The heroine was funny and smart and when life handed her lemons, she sure as fuck pumped the lemonade out. As for Max, I don’t think that Kresley Cole is capable of writing a hero I don’t want to lock in my attic and do naughty things to. All I can say is…bring on Dmitri.

  1. I just started this audio this morning. The first thing I noticed was the use of acronyms and it was driving me crazy. It has seemed to die off after the first 45 minutes or so. I hope they don’t pick back up. The Professional was hard to top. That was a great book. Great review with no spoilers.

  2. aw man i was completely taken by surprise with how much i liked the professional and i had such high hopes for this….
