“You won’t want to miss out on Amy Harmon’s talent with words.”
~ Under the Covers

I was extremely excited to read this book because I enjoyed the first one so much.  It was a unique storyline and beautifully written.  But for some reason I kept pushing off reading this, even though I picked it up as soon as it came out.  Mostly, I think, was fear of where the story could go after the ending of book 1.  I think I kinda wanted it to be a standalone.

THE QUEEN AND THE CURE centers around different main characters.  We met Kjell in the first book and I was curious about him, but never truly invested.  I can’t say that changed much with this book.  He’s a warrior and a healer.  I was definitely missing the teller ability and the way the words were used from the previous book.  Still, I liked the journey Kjell has to go through with his own ability in this book.  The way it evolves and he has to come to terms with it.

The heroine is a Seer and is found by Kjell while basically a dying heap.  She swears to be his servant after he saves her and travels with his army.  I actually really liked how they met, and both their abilities.  I may even go as far as saying they had some chemistry.  But there were some things along the way that made this not the strong story I wanted to read.  I don’t really want to get into those details because they would be spoilery, but lets say things are a bit too convenient and the way one major obstacle in the HEA is solved in the end was not to my liking.

The writing, as always, is lyrical and thought provoking.  With so many quotes that were just beautiful.  If for nothing else, you should pick up this series to experience that.  You won’t want to miss out on Amy Harmon’s talent with words.  And as much as this was an enjoyable read, I definitely enjoyed the first book more.
