“SURE SHOT is the total opposite of a slow burn romance and it’s sizzling hot.”
~ Under the Covers

I’m a fan of Sarina Bowen’s books and I love this series.  SURE SHOT was adorable from the start because we get a glimpse from a previous couple and their baby right from the getgo. And there’s also the fact that the heroine is the sister of the hero in Bountiful which was the Brooklyn Bruisers/True North crossover book.

I know sometimes stories about the ruthless female sports agent finding love with an athlete may seem like a cliche. But if there’s anyone you can trust with it is Ms. Bowen. Bess is close to turning 30 and has decided to implement her 5 year plan so she can find the right man to settle down and have babies of her own. The baby fever is in full swing. So when Tank gets traded from Texas to NY and so happens to be someone she secretly had a fling with almost 10 years ago, the orderly plan goes out the window. His having a rough year. Not only was he traded to another team, but the media is having a field day coming up with stories and reasons about why his marriage also just fell apart. And she still has a “no dating athletes” rule.

The chemistry between Bess and Tank is definitely palpable. But I think in the beginning of this book it really went from 0-100 so fast. I guess it makes sense based on their past history. As the outsider, though, having just started seeing their interactions it felt like we really accelerated things and at times that could come across as pushy. Especially on Tank’s side. SURE SHOT is the total opposite of a slow burn romance and it’s sizzling hot.

At the same time, I knew we were going to get a more emotional part to this story and I had things figured out quite early as to what it would be. I personally think that Ms. Bowen did a good job with how she tackled that even if we didn’t really get to dive incredibly deep in those feelings. It added a nice depth to the characters/situation and I appreciated it. Also the decisions in the end.

It’s no surprise that I enjoyed this book. I think there’s something adorable about every single story in this series. While they are all very different and unique, the sense of friendship, family and community really pulls them all together. I love seeing all these characters rally around each other. I can’t wait for more.
