ARC Review: Ruled by Elle Kennedy

I have to admit I was both excited and scared to read RULED.  Excited because I do look forward to what will happen next in the series, but scared because I don’t think the previous books met all my expectations.  Call me crazy but yes too much sex and not enough in plot advancement was making me drag my feet on starting this one.  Once I started, though, I quickly realized this would be different.

First of all let’s talk about the characters.  I absolutely adore all three main characters.  Reese is a pretty kick ass chick and she has to be to lead her Outlaw people.  She’s made a lot of personal sacrifices in her role and she knows she must continue to make tough decisions.  The weight of that responsibility is heavy on her shoulders and I thought she was such a well rounded character.  Not all tough all the time, but not weak at any moment.  She came across strong even in those moments when she was more vulnerable.  The one person that she let that guard down with was Sloan.  Her right hand man of many years.  I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love him.  That strong and solid presence in her life, but also that brutally strong and dominant male that keeps himself leashed.  All that contained power that only explodes at precise times was doing all kinds of things to me.

And obviously we have the third man of this relationship.  I’ve wanted Rylan to get an HEA from the first time he shows up in CLAIMED.  He’s such a wild, passionate and loving guy.  Carefree as he may seem, others don’t see him having any depth but it’s there, safely guarded.  The dynamics of his relationship with Reese were perfect in bringing out some parts of him, but adding in his relationship with Sloan was the key to making this all work for me.  I found that as a couple, I didn’t think Reese and Rylan could make it 100%, but when you add Sloan to the mix they stand strong and perfectly balanced.

But the one thing I had found missing before in this series was and exploration of the full potential of the world.  I think we finally got it.  The potential I had seen all along in the series of blending the right amount of off the charts sexual chemistry and the dangers and action of the outlaw world has finally come to fruition in RULED.  This is by far my favorite book in the series!  We are finally making strides in the war against the Council, key players are moved into place and strategies are moving forward.  And all that doesn’t mean we are losing anything in the erotic factor.  Word of caution, RULED is sizzling hot!  The connection between each of these characters, whether they are interacting as two or three, comes through with every word and every action.  It strengthens with each sex scene, as it does with each battle.  I couldn’t have asked for more.

Of course, that just means I’m now anxiously awaiting the next book in the series and dying to know who it will be that gets his HEA next.  I, for one, would love to see it be Dominick!
