WAIT FOR YOU reminded me of exactly why I love reading romance! ~ Under the Covers

J. Lynn excels at these three things: 1) creating a heroine who is flawed but relatable, 2) creating a hero that is to die for and uber sexy and 3) writing a story that always feels genuine and unique, while also pushing the limits of the reader’s heart.

I’m a big fan of both works by Armentrout and Lynn so I was eager to see how Lynn would be writing New Adult instead of strictly YA and Romance. The different in writing isn’t to big. So fans who like either works of this author can be assured that they’ll still get the same great quality of writing and plot. However, if I had to choose, I would say it leans a little bit closer to the YA side.

The main difference is that we have an older heroine who is far from perfect, but still very relatable to readers of all ages. Avery is trying to overcome her past, but it haunts her like a ghost. Adding to that pressure is she is thousands of miles away at a new college where she hopes to make new friends and have a fresh start.

The darkness of the book is prominent  but it didn’t feel too heavy as Lynn’s writing is quite light and uplifting. But there is also something else that brings light into this book and it is Cameron Hamilton. *big dramatic swoony sigh* I should have been prepared of this and known that Lynn would gift readers with another hero to die for. Cam is the sweetest guy, saying all the right things  without it being cheesy or cliched. Even when things started getting bad for Avery, his presence never felt too overbearing or intrusive. Lynn just always knows how to balance her heroes with her heroine and having someone like Avery who is so complex and darkened by her past, she needed a hero to counteract that and I thought Cam was perfect for the role.

WAIT FOR YOU reminded me of why I love reading romance! Lynn spends A LOT of time on the romance between Cam and Avery and it pays off BIG TIME. It reminded me of my own youth where silliness and anxiety all play a part in making a memorable experience. Avery is so inhibited, but Cam just has a way of getting beneath her barriers and making her smile. The way Lynn explores their relationship felt so genuine and real that I had no problem believing in their love.

I worried because with New Adult, a lot of the times college hijinks take center stage and we often see the immaturity of the characters but I never once thought that anything was too over the top. There is one character named Jacob who is a complete thrill to read. He is so fun and over the top, but in a good way. His humor definitely added a lot to the story and had me smiling and laughing out loud more than once through the course of this book!

WAIT FOR YOU is an emotional, heartbreaking, but definitely sweet love story that readers will gobble up like candy! After reading this, it only makes me want more!

Favorite quote:

I shot forward, crossing the distance between my door and kitche. Cam turned just as I launched myself at him.

He caught me and stumbled back a step as he caught me with his arms around my waist. I buried my head against his chest, eyes closed and my heart thumping. “I missed you.”
