I havenโ€™t felt this way about a book since Sherrilyn Kenyonโ€™s ACHERON. TO COMMAND AND COLLAR follows the same premise โ€“ a character suffers the cruel, soul-stripping torture of being a sex slave.

First off, I have to warn readers that this book is much more darker than any of the others in the series combined. Most of you would recognize the heroine in this book. Kimberly Moore is Gabiโ€™s best friend, the heroine from MAKE ME, SIR. As you know, Kim was kidnapped and sold as a sex slave to sadistic men who get off on hurting women during sex.

Raoul, the sexy Hispanic Dom takes it upon himself to get into a special event for โ€œdamaged goodsโ€ where he finds Kimberly. Abused and scarred by her previous owner, Kim is now seen as a damaged product and is offered to Raoul for a discounted price. Raoul must play the part of a ruthless scumb in order to get Kim out. However, he finds that playing the part is more difficult than he can bear.

The amount of heartbreak in this book hits you right where youโ€™re most vulnerable. Sinclair does a fantastic job of evoking emotion and sympathy for a woman who has endured horrific acts that would break any person.

Kim shows her strength countless times in this book and itโ€™s hard not to shed some tears as you witness her journey. As I said earlier, this book reminds me of Kenyonโ€™s well-loved character, Acheron. Itโ€™s their dealings with being a sex slave that squeeze your heart and make you ache with them.

I personally donโ€™t have a preference for the BDSM slave lifestyle. Thatโ€™s just not me, however this isnโ€™t the first time I have read a book where a character wishes to be a slave 24/7. TO COMMAND AND COLLAR is one of the better ones I have read following this lifestyle choice. There were moments when I felt that Raoul was pushing Kim too hard. But in those instances, I had to remember that with the looming follow-up with the Overseer coming, Raoul was doing it for her own protection.

TO COMMAND AND COLLAR is Top Pick for 2011 for me. Sinclair gives Kim the book she deserves, showing her progression from a broken doll into a human being filled with life, something her abusers failed to see as they hurt her repeatedly.

If you are looking for a sizzling hot story that will not only heat you up, but touch your soul, then Sinclair delivers in TO COMMAND AND COLLAR. Itโ€™s a touching story that will leave you breathless and in tears, making sure it will make your own Top Reads of 2011!

  1. I love the emotions evoked by Cherise’s writing. She obviously puts a lot of thought into her stories and she consistently achieves the perfect balance between emotionally and physically erotic.

  4. Having loved Acheron’s story and the way Sherrilyn evoked so many emotions in me with her writing, I am so going to add this one to my list of MUST buys now.

  5. This is a wonderful story! I think this was my favorite to date from Ms. Sinclair’s Shadowlands Masters. Great emotion, super sexy, wonderful characters and story. I can’t wait for more Masters!

  6. Right on! Love the series and this book was right up there with the rest. I own every book in the series and look forward to any further additions. The emotional connection that Cherise creates between her characters is something that I hope to emulate in my own writing.
