Gena Showalter has created a sexy, but light hearted and funny read~ Under the Covers

Katie James has just bought a new house to start renovating but it wasn’t the house that enticed her to buy, it was the garden and more specifically a particular statue in the garden. Katie can’t help feel that she is being watched by it, maybe even seduced but that’s ridiculous it is only a stone statue, not a flesh and blood man. However. Katie’s instincts may not be as fanciful as she thinks as the statue transforms in to a man, Jorlan en Sarr, Jorlan must get Katie to fall in love with him otherwise he faces an eternity entombed in stone, but it can’t be too hard right, all he has to do is seduce her…

What I love about The Stone Prince is that it is a combination of different genres and elements; it has a sexy alpha male alien, although this book isn’t particularly a sci-fi and it is sprinkled with a little magic as well all set in the modern day (circa 2004!). With all these components Gena Showalter has created a sexy, but light hearted and funny read, which I really enjoyed even though I may not rush to reread it.

What kept me smiling through out this book was Jorlan; he was complete out of his element, stuck on a different planet in a different time, this lead to some funny moments through out the book, especially with his alpha male he-man attitude.

“From now on, if you don’t understand something, ask me about it.”
Now he gave her a you-silly-little-girl frown. “Taking time to ask questions can give the enemy an opportunity to attack.”
“My answering machine is not your enemy!”
“Not anymore,” he answered smugly.

But it wasn’t just the funny moments I enjoyed, the sexual chemistry between Katie and Jorlan was great, they smouldered and simmered their way through the pages, we also had the added extra of a secondary romance, something that I always enjoy, I could have baked a cake in the heat they gave off. However, the story itself wasn’t anything original and the path the characters took was predictable, it didn’t stop me from enjoying the book, but it did prevent me from giving it a higher rating.

This was a fun read, Gena Showalter is one of my favourite authors and although this may not be one of her best books, it is still worth giving it a try.
