“I still think [Jennifer’s] greatest strength is in writing YA paranormals.”
~ Under the Covers
In the last book of the Lux series, Jennifer L. Armentrout spares no time before she jumps straight into the action. As this is the last book in the series, I strongly suggest reading the series in order to get its full effect. It’s been a long time since I read the previous books in the series so I did feel like I was one step behind as this book took off. Armentrout doesn’t waste any time recapping the previous events so if you’re like me and time has eroded your memory a bit, going back to the previous books to refresh yourself may help.
Apart from that, I did enjoy this story. The heroine, Katy is still a great source of confidence despite the fact that everything is going wrong in her life. The discoveries she has made in this book throws her into a whirlwind of confusion and doubt but I think she handles it well.
Daemon is still the star of the show though. With his smoldering ways and intense heat, it’s easy to fall for a guy like him. Armentrout blows his world wide open in this one, revealing all the secrets and twists in rapid fire speed. So if you’re like me and are a little bit rusty on the little details, it might not hit you as hard as the hardcore fans but it still packs a punch!
My first Armentrout books were her YA books. I fell in love with her voice with these books and her Convenant series and after having read pretty much everything else she has put out since then, I still think her greatest strength is in writing YA paranormals. She has the voice for them. She carries the right amount of uncertainty and anxiety that most teens have without being annoying about it. And her worldbuilding? The Lux series certainly has the most unique world I’ve encountered recently.
If you’re a fan of the more sexier YA novels out there such as Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead and Wendy Higgins’ Sweet trilogy then I think you’ll enjoy this world as well.
