This has everything I love about urban fantasy, it is like Patricia Briggs sat down, took notes on what I like about UF then decided to base a series on it. ~ Under the Covers

I waited far far far too long to read this book! And although I am kicking myself about that, I am also excited that I have another five books left to read before I have to wait for Frost Burned to be released.

This has everything I love about urban fantasy, it is like Patricia Briggs sat down, took notes on what I like about UF then decided to base a series on it. The initial aspect of Moon Called that had me hooked was the main character of Mercy, she is my favourite kind of heroine, tough without being stupidly aggressive, compassionate and funny. I think liking Mercy is especially important in this series as it is told from first person POV, something that I know puts some people off but I find I like in UF.

The plot in this was great as well, it was managed to incorporate building the new world which Ms Briggs has created with an interesting mystery, it didn’t feel like there was a massive information dump, but rather it was fed to you in small bits as Mercy investigated. For example, we didn’t get lots of information on vampires in a longwinded, unlikely and pointless converstaion Mercy has with someone, instead we discovered it for ourselves when Mercy et al were amongst the vampires and it was relevant to understand what was happening.

As for the two men in Mercy’s life Adam and Sam…I know it is only the first book, but I am on Team Adam, from him baiting Mercy, to his sexy growl and his obvious love for his daughter…I am a smitten kitten. But I don’t think we have seen Sam at his best so that might change when I read Blood Bound!

A great start to this series and I am now moving on to the next book!

  1. Oh… this is one of my top fav series. I love, love, love Mercy and co. I’m also loving the A & O series too! Can’t wait for the next cuz if you read the latest A & O book, there was a major shake up in this world and I’m eagerly anticipating how it will affect Mercy 🙂

  2. I love this series, but the wait for the next book is painful. I don’t want the quality to go down, but it has been forever since River Marked was released!

I love that the quality of the stories and the character has not gone downhill as the series continued, I hate having to say that I wish a series I once loved would end because it is no longer as good as the first few books.

  3. Suz, I just recently read this book—and look forward to reading the next in the series. Loved the writing style and will have to wait and see which team I will be on—Team Adam or Sam–not sure right now. Although, I loved Adam in this first book.
