“Sadly just a tad flat for me, even though I still liked it.”

~ Under the Covers

I’m sitting here struggling. First because I think this series has so much potential and I feel like it’s always just a bit short of hitting it off the park. And this book in particular I really wanted to like. I really did. That’s not to say it’s not good, but could’ve been so much better.

BOUND BY FOREVER is the romance between a fae with the ability to see the future and the shifter bodyguard that is assigned to protect her from a group of witches that want to get rid of her. This story has action and a great overarching plot that we see developed more and more throughout each book in the series. All that good!

If you are looking for a paranormal book that will cure the wanderlust you’re feeling, then this whole series is a good one for that as each book will usually take you to different countries. The hero is Japanese and my favorite thing about reading this book was the fact that a good part of this book is set in Japan and we get to explore not only the place but the culture with our characters. I loved seeing that!

This is an opposites attract story. Kiyo is broody and grumpy and Niamh is a bit more reckless and cheerful. They both have gone through a lot and I really liked exploring both of their backstories in this book. However, I think maybe there was a bit too much development for individual characters and the overarching plot and the romance was left a bit to the side. This is definitely a slow burn but it was almost a fight for these two to accept their bond. I think that dragged on too long for me. But then again, I’m not a big fan of slow burn in general.

And on another positive note, I absolutely adored how S. Young brought everything full circle with Kiyo and his past. I don’t want to spoil it but his connection to another character in the series made me a bit emotional and was probably one of my favorite scenes of the whole book.

While I love the concept of this series, and I’ll certainly be reading the fourth and final book to see how this all turns out, I think there’s a little spark that is continuingly missing in these to bring them to the next level. And BOUND BY FOREVER was just like that. Sadly just a tad flat for me, even though I still liked it.
