“Julie Kagawa has completely captivated me with this YA fantasy trilogy”
~ Under the Covers

Night of the Dragon is the climax of the Shadow of the Fox trilogy. Will Yumeko and her band of powerful and diverse friends be able to stop the dragon wish for being used for ill? They are on the last leg of their journey, but endgame is drenched in demons and dark powers; who will be left standing?

I am not normally a great lover of young adult books, but Julie Kagawa has completely captivated me with this YA fantasy trilogy. This is the final book in the trilogy and I was desperate to see what was going to happen. Would Yumeko, Tatsumi et al manage to stop the evil Genno. And, more importantly (to me, not the overall plot!) would Yumeko and Tatsumi’s romance blossom further? All my questions were answered in this book.

I have really enjoyed the fast pace of this adventure story. It’s packed with fascinating and terrifying spirits and monsters pulled from Japanese lore. Usually more western folklore is used in the books I have read, so this was a really unique and interesting read for me.

But, I am a character driven reader. I will tolerate and even enjoy a predictable plot and poor pacing, as long as the characters speak to me. And so, what I liked about this book, this trilogy, was the friendships, camaraderie and romance within our eclectic group of heroes. It’s been a joy to tag along with them. Although, I would also like to say the plot in this was also excellent and the pacing was spot on!

I always think that ending a series must be a difficult endeavour. And, ending a series well, with all loose ends tied up and with a satisfying ring of finality to it, yet leaving readers still eager for more must be even harder. I think Kagawa did a good job with ending this trilogy. I am not going to give away any spoilers, but it was poignant and bitter sweet, but nevertheless ends on a chime of hope. I would have gladly read more, but also feel like it ended on a high.

This was a fantastic trilogy with a unique and fascinating setting, an engaging story and characters I loved. If you’re looking for a YA fantasy to read then you won’t go wrong picking this one up.
