“…The Big Bang Theory with a romantic twist…”
~ Under the Covers

My Favorite Half-Night Stand is a quirky and humorous read that I really enjoyed. It came at a perfect time when I needed to take a break from the heavy psycho thrillers I have been addicted to lately. It also reminded me a bit of The Big Bang Theory with a romantic twist and gave me the warm fuzzies. I love stories that revolve around a well-grounded friendship which Millie and her co-horts have in spades. The cast of characters are in academia and work together at UC Santa Barbara where they sometimes meet up at lunch and dinners, or just hang out. Their conversations and sometimes, their geeky awkwardness, was highly entertaining.

Mille is the only gal among her four favorite male colleagues and they don’t date much, much less have a significant other—too busy working—so they agree to use a dating app to help them find a date for an upcoming work function.

But things get complicated when one night of inebriation has Millie hooking up with her best friend, Reid. Que the more adorable than smexy sex scene.

“Reid, I’m touching your dick.”

“I know.”

“I like it,” she whispers.

“Coincidence? I do, too.”

They agree not to mention their tryst to the others in their group and to forget it happened, least it ruin their good friendship. Of course, hilarious hijinks soon follows when Millie makes another dating profile using her middle name and a picture that doesn’t actually show her face. It comes as no surprise when her fellow bestie matches up with her at a whopping 98%. Mille doesn’t tell Reid that she is the Catherine that has been emailing him and —well, of course Reid starts to fall in love with this Catherine who seems to remind him so much of his best friend, Millie. Yeah—it’s kind of predictable and a bit ‘we’ve read this kind of trope before’, but I went along for the ride because I enjoyed Lauren’s writing and loved the chemistry between Mille and Reid.

Cons for the read for me—although these characters are close to their 30’s, sometimes they act younger—aka—immature. But I can totally relate as I sometimes don’t act my own age, lol. I guess you have to take into account the type of book this is—Romantic Comedy—and go with the flow.

Overall, My Favorite Half-Night Stand did the job it was supposed to do: entertain me and make me laugh, which was exactly what I needed!

  1. I’ve seen a lot of meh reviews for this one, so I’m on the fence. Christina Lauren books are always hit-or-miss with me, so it really depends. Like, I loved Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating and Autoboyography, but Roomies fell flat for me. I’m still looking forward to this one, and I hope I enjoy it as much as you did!
