Interview and Giveaway with Gena Showalter

What better way to start off the month of August than with one of UTC’s favorite authors!  She needs no introduction so please help us welcome Gena Showalter back to Under the Covers!

Welcome Gena, we are excited to have you with us today!  THE DARKEST CRAVING is book 10 in the Lords of the Underworld series! Did you ever expect the success you’ve gained from this paranormal series?

It shocked me, to be honest.  I’ve never written a book and thought, “I don’t care if everyone hates it, because I love it, so there.”  I’ve always wanted readers to be pleased.  So, knowing they welcomed these immortal warriors into their lives was—and is!—beyond thrilling.

Are you planning to continue on in this world with the possibility of more books?

I want to tell the story of every original Lord, as well as their closest friends.  (Such as William.  Love me some Big Willy.  And the Harpies.  And the Phoenix.  And the Fae, and the Sent Ones, and the Sirens.  And, okay, even Galen.  And…and…and…LOL)  I want everyone (sexy) in my books to experience a happily ever after.

Readers are familiar with Kane and the disasters that follow him. Care to tell us a bit more about Kane and his book? 

He’s never had it easy, and because of the demon of Disaster, things have only gotten worse for him throughout the series.  Knowing the demon would hurt—and perhaps kill—a love interest, he hasn’t allowed himself to date in centuries.  He’s had to rely on one night stands to get him by.  But that isn’t going to be enough with Josephina, the heroine of The Darkest Craving.  He can’t get her out of his mind.  He wants more.  Craves more.  But a problem that might prove bigger than the demon?  Kane has been ordered to marry her sister.  <– A never before shared fact.

If you had to describe Kane as an ice cream flavor, what would it be and why?

S’more.  He’s crunchy on the outside, but a big ole marshmallow on the inside.  And he’s delicious.  (according to mind-cooler gossip)

What can you tell us about Josephina Aisling, the heroine of THE DARKEST CRAVING?

I very much enjoyed writing her.  She grew up in the world of the Fae, where the Lords of the Underworld are like rock stars.  In the beginning, she has a hard time not asking Kane for an autograph (though she’s a bigger fan of Paris and Torin, much to Kane’s chagrin).   She’s an intriguing mix of sassy modern and old world charm, but like Kane, she knows the horrors of disaster.  There was no one more perfect for him.

What’s your favorite thing about Kane? 

He will do anything—and I mean anything—to protect Josephina.  Throw another woman out of a moving vehicle?  Done.  Return to hell, even though he would rather be hacked into tiny pieces while still alive?  Fine.  When he gives his heart, he gives it all.  There’s nothing left.

Are we any closer to getting William’s story? What about Torin? He needs some love too! 

Breaking news: Torin is now officially in the line up.  He’s after Kane.  Then either Cameo or William will follow Torin.  So, very happy to say – YES lol

*thud* *faints* *fan girl squeeeeeing* Ehem, lets go to the Angels for a second…We know that BURNING DAWN will be Thane’s story.  I’m not sure how you can top Koldo because he was just sexy!  What are you most looking forward to showing readers about Thane?

Thank you so much!  I’m in the middle of Thane’s story right now, and I think it’s going to be one of my sexier books.  He has certain…expectations when it comes to sex.  He is all about control.  And pain.  There, I said it.  But what he wants isn’t really what he needs, and I’m loving his blooming relationship with the heroine—and the new things he is trying.  It’s one of my more smoldering relationships.

But enough about the people that live in your head.  I’ve always been curious, do you have a writing routine or ritual?  You can be honest and tell us your quirky needs.

When the words are flowing, I like to drink chamomile tea, and listen to music.

When words are not flowing, I like to take a notebook and nest in bed.  I close my eyes and imagine the characters smack in the middle of a scene (this can also be called “napping.”)

Sometimes, a drive will help.  Sometimes, a shower.  <– very weird, but what can I say, it works.

Once, getting on the treadmill helped <– GAG!

What do you think your characters would say about you behind your back?

I think I’d get mixed reviews.

Some would say, “She rocks!”

Some would say, “Kill her—with rocks.”
