Interview and Giveaway with Carly Phillips!

Hi Carly and welcome back to Under the Covers.  We love having you here.  First of all congratulations on the recent release of PERFECT FLING.  Loved it!

Thank you! I always love being here with you! I’m thrilled you loved PERFECT FLING and Erin and Cole 😉

Serendipity’s Finest has a bit more suspense than the original Serendipity stories.  How different is it to include that element while still keeping with the light feel of the small town that is Serendipity?

I actually like including the bit of suspense which in my stories really just exists to drive the characters’ actions and isn’t about any kind of deep mystery.  The reason for it in these three books is the fact that it’s about the cops of Serendipity, so of course their lives need to include a little more action than a regular character’s!

Cole is a bit of a bad boy.   What is your favorite thing about him?

I love Cole.  He’s that rare Alpha hero with a soft spot for the one woman who can tame him.  He knew from the minute he slept with Erin she was trouble – and he was right.  Because any woman who could be that good and see inside him and make him want things? She’s dangerous.  My favorite thing is his protective streak.  I love when he said anyone who wanted to hurt Erin would have to go through him first. 😉

What was the hardest thing to write in PERFECT FLING?

Victoria was difficult to write.  Was she a villain? Or was she a woman unable to stop her actions because of things out of her control? It’s interesting.  Especially when the other characters have to decide how to think about her at the very end of PERFECT FLING and into PERFECT TOGETHER because Nicole, Victoria’s sister, is Sam’s heroine!

Do you have a favorite scene?  Care to share a bit of it with us?

Hmm … the opening.  I loved that it opened after the love scene.  The readers never see their first time together and yet I hope, they feel the intensity between Erin and Cole.  Also the fact that you see the good girl aspect to Erin immediately and you just KNOW it’s going to have an ongoing impact on both characters … you just don’t know how!

Did you mean REALLY share?

“You surprise me,” he admitted, studying her intently.  “And I didn’t think there was much left in this world that could.”

He sounded as if he’d seen and done too much in his lifetime.  A part of her wanted to reach out and soothe his hidden pain.  But before she could dissect her thoughts or heaven forbid act on them, he spoke.

“But your instincts about me were right on.  I’m not much for long, drawn out morning afters.”

Disappointment stabbed her in the heart and that was too dangerous to even contemplate for long.  “Glad to know I’m still on my game,” she said, forcing flippancy when she felt anything but.

Now that it was time to say goodbye, it wasn’t just awkward, it hurt a little more than she’d imagined it would.  Which, was what she got for thinking she could handle a one night stand with a guy she’d always had somewhat of a thing for.  No matter how young she’d been at the time.

“Since it was just a one night stand, you won’t have to worry about a repeat performance.”  She tossed the words as flippantly as she could manage.

“Pity,” he murmured.

She jerked in surprise.

Just as she was wondering if she had the nerve to ask him to turn around so she could get dressed, he flipped the covers off himself and rose from the bed – stark, gloriously naked.

All thoughts fled from her brain.  She tried to swallow and choked instead, ending up with another blush as she continued to cough until the spasm passed.

“And that just confirms why it has to be one night only,” he muttered low, obviously more to himself than to her.

Erin hated puzzles and enigmas.  “What does that mean?” she asked.

“Erin, honey, in a world where nothing and no one is what they seem, you’re real.”  He pulled on his jeans, leaving the top button open and Erin drooling.  “And that makes you dangerous.”

While writing your books do you usually have character inspirations, like pictures or celebrities?  Who do you see as Cole and Erin?

Yes!!! Name coincidence aside, I thought of Erin as Bridget Moynihan’s character Erin in the TV show Blue Bloods.  That really worked for me.  Cole was just the unnamed hot sexy brooding dark haired Alpha of my dreams, LOL!

How many more books do you have planned in this spin off?  Is it ending with Sam?

Have you ever used a real life event (yours or a friends) in one of your books?

I may subconsciously use events but no.  And if I did, do you think I’d tell? I don’t want my friends afraid to hang with me lest their personal lives show up in a book! LOL.

If you had to summarize PERFECT FLING in a tweet to tell new readers what it’s about, what would it be?

Good girl, hot Alpha male w/protective streak & a one night stand w/ unexpected results! Add in some danger and forced proximity and all bets R off!

We know you are also an avid reader.  What are you currently reading and loving?

Hmm … you do know me so well! I’m a huge Kit Rocha fan which is odd because I don’t normally read Dystopian romance but I adore their series and I have an advanced read of the newest book.  And the third J. Kenner, Claim Me.
