“Lots of delicious and squirmy smexy times in this book.”
~ Under the Covers

If you expect more reason than this cover of why I picked up this book, then you’ll be sorely disappointed.  I mean… I might be drooling over here.  The artwork and cover design, as well as the bearded hunk, just called to me.  But this was my first try reading this author so I was a bit scared to give it a shot.  I’ve been getting a bit disappointed lately with new authors.  Not so with this book!

HAVEN starts off with a bang, and of the sexual variety although there’s plenty of that to come.  Claudia is a city girl camping with her brother in California when they are attacked and her brother is killed.  While she’s trying to escape this deranged man she ends up on Shep’s secluded home and he takes one look at her and kills her attacker.  There’s a bond that forms between them, and now that Claudia is left to heal from her injuries in the hospital of a town so far from home without any family left in the world, Shep feels protective and responsible for her.  When it’s time for Claudia to go back home, he’s the one bright thing in her life she can’t stop thinking about.

First of all, Shep is such an awesome hero!  My favorite kind.  Reclusive, grumpy, a little rough around the edges (or a lot) and a dominant.  He makes no apologies for what he needs because he knows his tastes well.  I thought he was the perfect alpha male and he just made me all tingly.  I also found the initial connection between them forming from such a moment of shock and survival to be very realistic so it made sense for me when Claudia decides to come back and spend time with Shep to understand her feelings.

These two definitely have chemistry!  The sex and the BDSM scenes are very hot and quite often.  Lots of delicious and squirmy smexy times in this book.  But I also liked how the author, refreshingly, didn’t use BDSM as the way Claudia would deal with her trauma.  This is often used in BDSM books as a healing thing the heroine chooses to do.  That it’s necessary for her healing process. That’s not where this story went and I could appreciate that.

I think I’m going to continue enjoying this series if we get to see more delicious bearded mountain men and lots of sexy time.  Fans of Cara McKenna will probably enjoy this and I’ll now be on the lookout for more by Rebekah Weatherspoon.
