I am a sucker for all things Beauty and the Beast so I jumped on this opportunity to read this novella. However, I found that I was unable to really connect to the authorโ€™s voice or the characters. I found the world to be interesting at first, but then as it became more detailed, I found that I could not really keep track of it all. It seemed a little messy to me and I think my initial confusion stayed with me throughout the entire novella.

At times the writing was OK, but then when it jumped into dialogue, I felt very detached from the characters. The author bombards you with a few different characters at first and really shows how they fit in the world.

The one thing I really liked about this book was Hauk. Heโ€™s an interesting character and I loved that he isnโ€™t your handsome shining knight. I think more authors should attempt to write heroes who are like Hauk more. I found it to be refreshing.

This is the first book in a trilogy and since it is a shorter length, I think a lot of things happened at a very fast paced. The HEA doesnโ€™t occur at the end of this book, but that didnโ€™t bother me too much. For me it was my detachment from the world and characters. Unfortunately, Iโ€™m not interested enough to continue.
