“I felt their fire burning.” ~Under the Covers

The final installment in the Breathless series is here.  RUSH (Book 1) won me over right away.  I was sold on the asshole that Gabe was.  Then FEVER rolled around and I was itching with excitement and Jace blew it for me.  So my frame of mind going into BURN was …. scared.  Scared that I would get another story that didn’t live up to my expectations.

BURN is Ash’s story.  The last friend in the group who wasn’t attached.  At the beginning he starts to feel a bit left out.  His two best friends have women now that take their time away from buddies.  His best friend Jace isn’t sharing women with him anymore.  It’s a time for transitions for him.

This story kind of goes along the same path as FEVER did.  Josie is down on her luck financially, a struggling artist who hasn’t been selling her paintings and can’t pay the rent.  Add to that a bit of an abusive ex boyfriend and after one chance encounter at the park, Ash swoops in to the rescue.

The damsel in distress (financially, especially) is not one of my favorite themes and very few authors have proven to me that the heroine has more to offer than her problems to the hero.  However, unlike Jace’s girl, Josie has a little bit more balls and has dabbled in BDSM enough to know that she likes it.  Definitely a point in this book’s favor.

The connection between Ash and Josie wasn’t what I wanted or even pictured for him, but I take comfort in knowing it was better than the previous book.  I felt their fire burning.  Even though I still think Ash should’ve been with some kick ass businesswoman that came into town to do a deal with their company and maybe open a hotel in some exotic location where Ash and her would’ve worked closely together.  *sigh*

As usual, Ms. Banks can write a steamy book and the smexy in BURN was scolding hot!  Even though this is not my favorite work by Ms. Banks, I have enjoyed this series and I’m already looking forward to what she has up her sleeve next.

Francesca I like your idea for the story line. I also think it would fit Ash.
