At the end of Fierce Heart we were left on a bit of a cliffhanger. Essie, her new husband Farrendel and her elvish family had been ambushed by trolls. Trolls using human weapons they could have only got from Escarland and attacking them in a place only elves would know. It seems that both elves and humans have traitors in their midst. In an effort to stabilise the newly formed alliance between elves and humans, Essie and Farrendel travel back to Escarland to investigate and find the human traitors.

The second book in the Elven Alliance series carries on immediately from the first book Fierce Heart. Essie and Farrendel are on the way to Escarland and the bosom of Essie’s family on the hunt for traitors. I really enjoyed the first book, it was a great introduction to the characters and the world and War Bound built on this further. This time it was Farrendel’s turn to be a fish out of water as he properly meets Essie’s boisterous and loving family. A contrast to his own, although loving, very reserved siblings. It was adorable, it was lovely to see the shy and stoic Farrendel bond with his brother-in-laws. The bond between our young married couple continues to grow as well, this book was, all around, a very heart-warming read.

As well as watching relationships, both romantic and familial, grow there was also traitorous plot to hand. This gave the book a slightly tense undercurrent as you become suspicious of every new character you meet. However, I don’t want to give too many spoilers. Suffice to say, when stuff happened, I was shocked, glued to my kindle and very very grateful that the next book was already released so I could start reading it immediately.

I really loved this book watching Essie and Farrendel fall more and more in love is addicting. And I love seeing more of their families, especially Essie’s big brothers, especially as it looks like they all have a major role to play in the upcoming books.
