ARC Review: Trailer Park Heart by Rachel Higginson

There’s nothing I love more than being swept off my feet by a story. Being transported to the pages of a book and knowing I don’t want to come out until I have the last one. That is exactly how I felt about TRAILER PARK HEART. Something about Rachel Higginson’s writing always draws me in and I have no choice bu to open my heart to her characters.

Ruby has always wanted better for herself. She grew up with a single mother who worked as the manager of a strip club and they lived in a trailer park. She’s identified with that so much she’s pushed everyone away and her goal was always to leave their small town and never come back. But life had other plans and one decision changed the course of her life. Now she’s still living in the same town, still in the same trailer she grew up with and with her mother, working the same waitress job she always did. And she’s learned to make some peace with it.

Enter Levi Cole. Her childhood nemesis. They lived for getting on each others’ nerves, pushing each others buttons since they were kids. After many years of being away, the town’s golden boy finally comes back to town to take over his family farm and he has a single minded focus on getting Ruby to finally notice him.

Lets talk about Ruby first because she’s the not so perfect one in this story. She can be a little immature and hold on to childhood grudges. She closes herself off and is also judgmental. No, she’s not perfect. But I didn’t need her to be perfect to care about her and want to see her happy. I attribute that to Ms. Higginson’s writing. There’s also a strength to her. She’s a fighter and a survivor. But Levi was the star of the show. I fell completely head over heels for Levi Cole. Mark it down, here’s your next book boyfriend.

I’ve come to expect certain things from Ms. Higginson. Great slow burn romances with an emotional punch but at the same time in a light hearted way. This was the perfect example of that and one of my favorite reads by this author in a while. Can’t wait for more!
