~ Under the Covers

Lady Penelope Campion, Penny, our wallflower, is known by the ton to be unusual and avoided. Not that she cares. She has a group of friends she adores and a menageries of unwanted and unloved animals to lavish her love and affection on. Her new neighbour Mr Gabriel Duke is not quite as please by her cadre of animals. A ruthless businessman, he has recently bought the house next door to Penny and her animals are disrupting his plans. So, Penny sets him a task, if he can find a home, and not just any home, but a loving one, then she will part with her beloved pets. How hard can it be?

There are a handful of authors where I get genuinely bouncy and impatient for their next release. Where the anticipation for the release is almost a physical force, and the closer it gets to release day the stronger that force is. Tessa Dare is one of those authors for me. I have never read a book of hers that I haven’t adored. So you can imagine how excited I was to get my mitts on The Wallflower Wager. I picked it up…then could not put it down until I had gotten to the last word.

One of the reasons I love Dare’s books so much is that they have such a wonderful balance of humour and romance, with the addition of enough real emotional depth that it has you connecting with the characters. And with The Wallflower Wager, we also have the added bonus of some really adorable and unusual pets. But, where this book really shines is the banter and the way Penny wiggles her quirky way into Gabriel’s heart.

If you like a hero who is all ruthless and cold hearted on the outside, but by the end of the book you realise he’s really all marshmallowey goodness, then Gabriel is the guy for you. I adore this type of hero. And watching his perplexity as he was trying to deal with the quirky, beautiful and supposedly naieve Penny was a thing of beauty. They were a delightful match. Their witty repartee had you eating up the pages of this book, and their unmistakable physcial attraction was delicious. This is a book that has a lot of heart and I guarantee will leave you with a smile on your face.

Now, the cycle starts again as I am once again left wanting for the next book Tessa Dare will release!

  1. Tessa dare is a hit-or-miss author for me. I really liked book 1 of this series, book 2’s story was lacking. However, I love Penelope and have been looking forward to her book. *fingerscrossed*
