“Small town mystery and intrigue. ย I kept questioning who this killer is, and we obviously know is a part of society. ย But yeah, this aspect of these books is like catnip for me.ย ”
~ Under the Covers
We left off the previous book with Brannon having just found out that Hannah is pregnant… and she’s lost her memory after a run in with a killer still on the loose. ย I was itching to get to this book because their relationship in the first one was very explosive. ย The chemistry, the heat, everything was combustible. ย but then I feel like she loses her memory and Brannon lost some of his steam! ย I found the couple in this book to have a different kind of chemistry than what I enjoyed about them in the first book, and I think that would’ve been ok for the very beginning but should’ve come back a bit as we continued reading.
I did still enjoy Brannon and Hannah together, they were just a bit “cuter” than I wanted them to be. ย They’ve always been attracted to each other but never made a move until recently. ย He has a quick change of heart about their relationship after her accident. ย She forgets a bit what made her spunky to begin with.
Nonetheless, this book steps it up in the mystery department. ย We do find out there’s more going on in this town and lurking around the McKay family then just Neve’s old boyfriend who was taken care of in the first book. ย That is one thing I think Ms. Walker always writes really well. ย Small town mystery and intrigue. ย I kept questioning who this killer is, and we obviously know is a part of society. ย But yeah, this aspect of these books is like catnip for me.
The small town feel is on point, we do switch around several POVs which is great for giving us a good feel for what’s going on. ย I think being in the bad guys head is always interesting because you are constantly looking for clues.
Obviously this leaves the next book setup for the last McKay sibling and the sheriff to get their second chance. ย I’m hoping this will be my fave in the series because I love the setup in that story! ย High school sweethearts, he’s the boy from the wrong side of the track who has now made himself into a respectable member of society. ย He’s never gotten over her, but now may finally be time to move on. ย Gah! ย I’m dying to read it. ย I hope that we get to keep some of that sizzling sexual tension in that one, unlike with the pair in this one that lost some steam.

Thanks for the review.
Yup this type of mystery is a draw for me too!
I missed the start of this series, but I definitely want to go back for it. I loved her other most recent small town rom suspense.
Yes, that would feel odd to get to know a couple well and then have the relationship derailed by a memory loss.
Oh, and I do enjoy seeing the new design on the blog. So light and cool like spring. ๐
Thank you <3
Thanks for the review Francesca
Oh, the premise of the 3rd book sounds good to me, too! I bought the first 2 & haven’t gotten to them yet. Story of my life!
