ARC Review: The Simplicity of Cider by Amy E. Reichert

I bought all three of Amy Reichert novels due to my friend’s recommendation. She loved all her books and I trusted her opinion. Honestly, I couldn’t resist the cute book covers, and I was able to get them autographed at a book conference I attended. I know, I know. I have the classic signs of a book hoarder, but it worked out this time as all the books were very good reads. Of course, it’s not until the audiobook was gifted to me by Francesca was when I actually got the jump start to read them.

Isaac up and left San Jose, California for the summer for many reasons. He needed to get his son away from the chaos and heartaches of losing his mom and to get a break from the fast-paced life that the Silicon Valley offers. His hopes are for him and his son to get some quality time and maybe get a different perspective on life. Finding themselves with a family who owns an apple orchard will definitely give them that and then some. What they find is so much more than they had ever expected.

Isaac’s decisions to move out of the Silicon Valley was relatable and reasons I can respect. People in the Bay Area move out of state for very similar reasons. I applaud him for wanting more for his son and actually doing something about it. I love his voice and overall character.

Sanna, on the other hand, had a simpler story. She’s that girl next door (farm in this instance) on the outside, but so much more on the inside. Her determination for the orchard to succeed and her passion for her work is inspiring. She was sweet but also strong-willed. I thought she was perfect for both Isaac and Sebastian who is coming from a very different world from hers.

There were cameos of the characters from the previous books but not enough to spoil anything.  All of Reichert books are stand-alones.  And yes, I read all three one after the next. I’ll tell you one thing though, Simplicity Cider is my favorite.   The story is very sweet. It’s not as fast pace as I’d like it but it’s a good book for lazy afternoons.

As far as the audiobook; I really like the narrator. She captured the voice and tone for each character perfectly. Where I typically change the speed faster, with this audiobook, I didn’t feel the need to do that. I did switch back and forth from the audiobook and print depending on my time and schedule, but overall, enjoyed the novel to the fullest using both formats.
