“Lords of the Underworld is one of those rare series that seems to get better with every book!”
~ Under the Covers
Gena Showalter, the author of the Lords of the Underworld series, shocked readers a little bit when she announced that THE DARKEST TORMENT was going to be Baden’s book. Baden is known as the Keeper of Distrust, but other than that, there’s actually not much we know about his character. Many readers were hoping for Cameo or William’s book, and I was one of those readers as well, but Showalter does an incredible job with this book as well.
Baden is dark and intense, and it’s a direct contrast to his heroine, Katarina Joelle, who is spunky and tenacious. She very much follows the same mold as her other heroines, but I’ve come to really enjoy that with Showalter’s books.
On the night of Katarina’s wedding, Baden appears to kidnap her when her new husband refuses to give him what he wants. Katarina now becomes leverage and this starts a whole slew of fun and interesting mishaps and Katarina tries to escape.
There are so many laugh out loud moments that I won’t be able to recall them all, but William is definitely a standout character when it comes to the humorous fun times. As this is book twelve, you’re better off starting at the beginning if you are new to this series, but I still think you can get away with reading this on its own if you really wanted to. Just be aware that many of the other characters in the series will be making frequent appearances throughout this one.
That being said, if you haven’t already read this series, you simply must! Lords of the Underworld is one of those rare series that seems to get better with every book!
