“As soon as I finished it I was underwhelmed…”
~ Under the Covers

I picked this up because the premise sounded really fun.  The heroine is a small town baker and the hero is a Hollywood actor.  But it wasn’t always like that.  They are from the same small town.  He was a childhood best friend to her and her brother and they quickly started dating.  But he dumped her when he decided to go off to Hollywood and pursue an acting career.  It took a while before she got over it but she moved on to someone else and was even engaged, but she called off the wedding and open her bakery, deciding that she had to follow the right path in her life instead of one that she wouldn’t be happy in.  Now her ex fiance is getting married and accidentally she’s RSVP that she would go with a plus one and her brother called in the cavalry to accompany her and save her reputation in the small town.  And that is her old high school flame.

There wasn’t anything wrong or terribly bad with this story.  I admit that I wasn’t a huge fan about the events from the past and how that is revealed because I didn’t think it was a good enough reason and just made me not really like the hero all that much.  But ultimately I just didn’t connect with the characters throughout the story or even care about them or their HEA.  As soon as I finished it I was underwhelmed, it became quite forgettable and I’m not sure that I would pick up another of her books.

About K. Bromberg

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author K. Bromberg is that reserved woman sitting in the corner that has you all fooled about the wild child inside of her—the one she lets out every time her fingertips touch the computer keyboard. She’s a wife, mom, child rustler, toy picker-upper, chauffer, resident web-slinger, LaLaloopsy watching, American Girl doll dressing multi-tasker of all things domestic and otherwise. She likes her diet cokes with rum, her music loud, and her pantry stocked with a cache of chocolate.

K. lives in Southern California. When she needs a break from the daily chaos of her life, you can most likely find her on the treadmill or with Kindle in hand, devouring the pages of a good, saucy book.

On a whim in 2013, K. Bromberg decided to try her hand at this writing thing. Her debut novels, Driven, Fueled, and Crashed of The Driven Trilogy were well received and went on to become multi-platform bestsellers as well as landing on the New York Times and USA Today lists.
