Review: Shift Out of Luck by Abigail Owen

As luck would have it, I found this little shifter pnr novella just when I needed a paranormal pick me up.  And this fit that need perfectly!  SHIFT OUT OF LUCK is the right kind of sexy shifter pick me up I was looking for.

I’ve read Abigail Owen in the past and wasn’t as sold on her characters but in this one I think the characters were actually done really well. Both main characters are actually alphas of their own pack and their packs are enemies.  So the best way to bring peace between them is to arrange a marriage between the alphas.  I actually really enjoyed the female alpha aspect of this story and the underlying fated mates trope woven in.  The power dynamics in the relationship were nicely done and the chemistry between them as also great.

What I probably would’ve liked to understand or see more of is the actual world building, the pack politics.  But with it being a novella (or maybe the fact that this is book 2?) I was missing that.  This at times left me a little confused.

That being said, although this isn’t going to be the most memorable read, it was a great paranormal infusion to my monthly read list.  I’ll be reading the previous novella in this series as well.
