“ROYALLY YOURS packs an emotional punch…”
~ Under the Covers

I’m not the biggest royal romance reader in general, but I am a fan of Emma Chase and couldn’t pass up the Royally series.  I was so pleasantly surprised when each installment was a fun read and kept wanting more.  And then we get something a little unexpected.  While the first 3 books in the series are contemporary romances, in a modern and a little edgy take on the royal Hallmark movies, this one goes back in time to the mid 1900s and lets us in the making of Queen Lenora.  Much more like the show The Crown then a Hallmark movie.

ROYALLY YOURS packs an emotional punch for many reasons.  There’s Lenora herself.  A young girl, a princess, that grew up with the weight of the responsibility of one day becoming Queen.  She was groomed for that so much it’s part of who she is.  So when she finds herself the Queen at 19 she really is a force to be reckoned with.  I was impressed by her, her strength, her determination, her love and dedication for her position.  So many things about her persona were selfless and she understood the depth of sacrifice she had to make.  It was refreshing that I never got the feeling she resented her obligations.

There’s friendship.  One particular friendship that was the one support Lenora had through many years.  And that friendship brings with it heartache.  Another thing that I was reading in fascination because of how it develops and how it weaves itself into the fabric of who our main character is.

And finally, the romance.  I say that last not because it’s not beautiful, but there was something maybe subdued about the romance?  The best way I can explain it is that for me the romance was just one of the parts in the overall bigger picture of who Lenora was.  And I think no one could’ve been better suited to stand by her side.  And probably my favorite thing about their relationship was the understanding that Edward has to come to about who she is and how she has to be.  And that he’s happy to stand by her and be the one refuge she has.

One of the first quotes that struck me in the first chapter I think was actually so very apt for how Queen Lenora’s life unfolded.  I’m so happy we were able to get this story!  And I’m now waiting anxiously for the next release by Ms. Chase.

“Kings are crowned.  But queens… queens rise.”
