“ROOKIE MOVE is an adorably sweet second chance at love that left me with a smile on my face.”
~ Under the Covers

I was just a tad worried when I started reading this that I would feel like I should’ve read the Ivy Chronicles, as this series spins off of that.  But I am happy to say I didn’t feel like that!  At all.  I will probably go back now at some point and read them because I think Sarina Bowen pens a stellar hockey romance.  Just the right amount of hockey business to actually make you feel immersed in the reality of the story, and with beautifully crafted characters that I immediately came to care for.  ROOKIE MOVE was a breeze to read and very entertaining.

Leo is trying to break into the NHL and advance his career.  He just got the call that the Brooklyn Bruisers, a new team under the management of the teams billionaire owner, wanted him and he couldn’t be happier.  That is before he realized that the girl who broke his heart is the teams’ publicist, and her father is the coach.

I liked Georgia from the very beginning.  She’s a strong, independent woman, trying to gain the respect of the men she works with while advancing her career.  She’s a go-getter without being bitchy, and I enjoyed that a lot.  Leo was totally adorable, you can tell he was never really over her but I wish he would’ve been more assertive and not let her get away.  I do like that they both left their problems (and mistakes) behind and were able to face the situation now in a new light.

The reason for their break up has a dark context and I think I would’ve liked to have gone a bit deeper into that.  Time has passed but really these characters have not gotten over what happened and the ending of this book was a bit tied up too quickly and prettily for me.  I would’ve liked to see a more realistic approach to the resolution of those problems.

But other than that one minor thing, talk about a fun and enjoyable story.  ROOKIE MOVE is an adorably sweet second chance at love that left me with a smile on my face.  I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.
