“I don’t think I’ve come across another book like it.”
~ Under the Covers
One day I was just looking through some of my older titles that I own that I still haven’t read yet and VOYEUR stood out to me. I’m a big fan of Toni Blake’s work and I knew Lacey Alexander is a pen name for Toni’s more spicier work. I can’t believe I only read one other book of Alexander’s so I figured why not, since I have the book already I might as well read it. The blurb was just so enticing that I stated reading on the spot!
VOYEUR is about a Mystery novelist named Laura Watkins. Laura is experiencing writer’s block but she had a deadline coming up so she needs to get her butt in gear and create an engaging story. In an effort to do that, she uses her friend’s isolated Colorado home. The privacy is just what she needs to get focused on her work, but it also stirs up some fantasies. When Laura sees a webcam’s light flashing, she pretends that someone is watching her. The idea arouses her and kickstarts a series of fantasies that sets her soaring. I have to say, this book heats up pretty quickly, especially when the owner of the house, Nick tells her that he saw her little show last night.
The banter between these two is amazing. Alexander keeps things realistic and safe while also pushing the boundaries of the characters. I think while there were times that Laura’s hesitancy kind of lower the heat down to a simmer sometimes, I do think that it was necessary otherwise she would come across as a little crazy. So I appreciate the author putting that in there.
I think it’s so interesting that for the first half of the book the hero and heroine haven’t met in real life and yet the author can convey the chemistry so beautifully across the page. I think that can be a feat to overcome but Alexander seems to do it with ease. So if you are looking for something a little more different than your typical Erotic Romance, than this is an excellent one to try out. I don’t think I’ve come across another book like it.
