“Even better than the first installment, I like what Mueller did here. She opened up this world a little more.”
~ Under the Covers
Callie is in neck deep in the soul collecting business. Initially blackmailed into this job and now she’s an apprentice to the Soul Charmer. The job has taken over her life along with her conscience. The good thing is that there may be some benefits to this Soul Collecting business. She’s learning quite and she will make the best of things. After finding a dead teen caught in the crossfire of a business feud, Callie and Derek vow to do right by him and find his murderer.
Even better than the first installment, I like what Mueller did here. She opened up this world a little more. We now know more on where the souls come from and how it connects to the soul collecting/renting business. Readers will also get to know the characters a bit more on their backgrounds, and family dynamics. Callie’s family, as messed up as they are, cracks me up. The Soul Charmer, despite the dick that he is, is more than meets the eye. There’s really a reason to all his madness. I think I’m starting to like him. But what I love most is the relationship between Callie and Derek. Despite issues, they seem to stay solid. I’ll be honest, I wish there was a bit more romance to the story.
There is a tiny cliffhanger at the end that left me with a question for the author…How long will I have to wait for the next book? Well, no matter. I’m excited to know more of her world of souls.
