“… it’s full of humour, romance and friendship. A perfect mix.”
~ Under the Covers

This isn’t the first book I have read by Mariana Zapata, however, it is the book that has me absolutely addicted! Rhythm, Chord & Malykhin was perfect for me; a sassy, hilarious heroine; an adorable good boy with the looks of a bad boy and lots of lovable and funny side characters. I picked this book up and was soon immersed and invested into the Rhythm & Chord Tour and didn’t want to leave… much like Gaby.

Gaby comes along on her brother’s band’s tour as the merch girl. After all, she doesn’t have much else going on; no job and her boyfriend has recently broken up with her. Besides, she loves her twin brother and the other two degenerates in his band. That’s when she meets Sacha Malykhin and they are hit with insta-friendship, they just seem to…fit and as the tour continues she begins to wonder if maybe there could be more.

Zapata is the absolute queen of friends to lovers and slow burn romances and this book is no different. Although this can make her books fairly predictable, which makes this a double edged comment; you know exactly what you are getting when you pick up one of her books, whether this is a good or bad thing depends on the reader. Personally I didn’t mind, the well-trod path her story took wasn’t the reason I picked up the book nor was it why I continued eagerly turning pages. It was all about the characters.

First, the romance, Gabby and Sasha become fast friends, they click immediately and their funny, teasing relationship with an underlying current of sexual tension was riveting to read. I loved their friendship turned romance I felt like Zapata created something beautiful between them by making it more than a surface deep insta-love interaction.

Now, for the second reason I loved this book, the surrounding characters, Gabby’s brother Eli and the rest of the band members were hilarious. I loved that this book showed you more than just the romantic relationship, but also the Gabby connecting with her brother and her best friends.

I am now a Mariana Zapata addict and I have no intention of kicking the habit. If you haven’t read her before this one is a great place to start, it’s definitely one of my favourites, it’s full of humour, romance and friendship. A perfect mix.

About Mariana Zapata

Mariana Zapata began writing love stories soon after she learned how to spell. She probably shouldn’t admit that she started sneaking romance novels from her aunt’s bookshelves way before she was old enough to even understand what it meant when a man flipped up a woman’s skirt… don’t tell her mom. Luckily, she stuck to stories about princesses and princes for a while.
In her teens, she wrote boy band fanfiction (there’s still a website up somewhere on the internet with those masterpieces), and in her early twenties, she picked it back up again with Sookie Stackhouse and Twilight. Eventually, her significant other finally told her to do what she wanted to do and she began working on her original work. Her novels tend to include potty humor, bodily functions, and bad words.
Mariana lives in a small town called Pagosa Springs, Colorado with her husband/best friend, Chris Letchford, and their two well-beloved (and emotionally manipulative) Great Dane children, Dorian and Kaiser. When she’s not pretending to write, she’s reading sci-fi, fantasy, steampunk or historical romance novels. You can usually find her harassing her dogs, being a hermit at home or cracking jokes at the expense of her family members.
