It was both heartbreaking and inspiring ...” ~ Under the Covers

Where the Crawdads Sing was Reese Witherspoon’s September book of the month.  I can see why she picked this book. It’s an I-am-woman-hear-me-roar kind of story and let me tell you, the heroine of the story did.  Though Kya did her roaring quietly, she fought with a ferocity of a wild lion. This girl abandoned at a very young age in a swamp area no less and survived it with no mess, no fuss.  She survived it without needing anyone but her wits and will.

In this book, you will go through Kya’s story from the very beginning.  You will experience all her heartaches as a child up to her adult life. How the town and her family had treated her and how she found love.  It was both heartbreaking and inspiring to see her survive and rise above and beyond what was expected of her. Kya was dealt a bad hand at life and my heart broke for her but she was resilient AF.

I have nothing but respect for the heroine and Delia Owens, who delivered a story that humbled me to the core.  I often take things for granted and Kya’s story made me step back and count my blessings. If you’re looking for a powerful story with an amazing female protagonist, you have to give this book a try.  There’s a reason why the ratings and reviews are as they are. The book is that good.
