“Skye Warren was able to make me accept things I normally would be running away from…”
~ Under the Covers

I’ve wanted to read Skye Warren for a while and this year I got started.  This book was one I was anticipating because I haven’t read much dub-con and needed to get my feet wet.  WANDERLUST is about a sheltered woman who has lived her whole life secluded from the world by her own mother.  When she finally decides to break out and go see the world, even after her mother tries to scare her into staying in the “safety” their home, she encounters that some of her mother’s fears can become a reality.

This book was so interesting to read because it made me question the heroines reactions to events where I would certainly be screaming bloody murder.  I could understand her logic and the pattern in which she fell into caring for her kidnapper.  And at the same time I was questioning the feelings it was igniting in me!  I probably cared more for the thought process and the plot than the characters, though.  I think Ms. Warren is able to deliver this story in a way that is compelling to the reader and draws you in.  But I also had a level of detachment because I didn’t fall in love with either of the characters, so I lacked the investment.

My one complaint was that I wasn’t really able to get a clear mental picture of Hunter in my mind.  I think we get to see his actions and intentions well, but a lot of things about him are still a mystery even by the end of the book.  It definitely left me wanting instead of satisfied.

This is a great starter into dub-con, I think.  Hunter is still sweet and nice (yeah, I know, I sound crazy saying that, but really he was!).  The whole point of this is that it’s dubious consent, so while it may seem as rape and kidnapping to someone, there is definitely a sense that is not how the heroine is taking it.  I love exploring the mental and emotional game of this concept and I can’t wait to read more!  Skye Warren was able to make me accept things I normally would be running away from and that’s peaked my interest.
