“If you like your romances sweet, slightly angsty and with no external conflict then this is the book for you.”

~ Under the Covers

Being blind has never stopped Ava Bennet and moving away from her small town to the big city has only bolstered her confidence. However, she’s back to her small home town to help her father after an injury. But, being under the roof of her well meaning but over protection family is…difficult and she longs to get back to her life. Even if that means leaving behind the man she can’t stop thinking about.  Luke Walker has spent all his adult life in the military, but now he’s back home and trying to make up all the time he has lost with his family and acclimatise to civilian life. Then he meets Ava, he knows he has a limited amount of time to persuade her that jus one month together will never be enough…they deserve a lifetime.

I’m a woman with a big sweet tooth. In my world, there is no such thing as too much chocolate and my dream in life is to unashamedly order every item off the dessert menu and chase it with a milkshake. This is probably why I enjoy a Claudia Connor book so much, they are so darn sweet! For some people, maybe a little too sweet. But, like I said, I have a sweet tooth so I was munching through this book with glee.

It’s not often you see a completely blind heroine so it was great to see this represented in this book. And, it really made me think about how scary living life could be if you can’t see anything. How human languages are informed by our sight, and as Ava has been blind since birth, things like colours have no context. And, although I am very much venturing into the patronising zone, I couldn’t help but admire Ava’s will and gumption. She let nothing hold her back. As for Luke, our wounded hero, he’s a man trying to find his place in civilian life but is struggling to fit.

The story between Luke and Ava was really lovely, they are both struggling with their own demons and don’t really ever expect to find love. This was a low conflict book, where the focus was on the emotional journey that Ava and Luke go through as they both evaluate their lives and gradually learn to trust one another. The small town setting gives them space to do that. And, if you re a fan, like me, of Connor’s books we also get to see a lot of the McKinney and Walker gang from previous books.

If you like your romances sweet, slightly angsty and with no external conflict then this is the book for you. Personally, I was in the perfect mood to read this and really enjoyed it and can’t wait for more from Claudia Connor.

  1. So, these two sound like such a great couple! Sometimes sweet and low conflict is exactly what is needed.

  2. This is a great review…. I’m a mod reader and knowing what I’m going to be encountering is a big help! Sometimes, one needs a good, sweet romance!
