” [Gabaldon’s] words are cinematic and stunning in their details.” ~ Under the Covers

Many books take you on an adventure, but Diana Gabaldon’s VOYAGER gives readers an experience that they will not likely forget. Heavily steeped in history, VOYAGER doesn’t shy away from the perils of war. Gabaldon makes the historic aspect of this book another character in the story. Even if you aren’t the biggest history buff, you can still appreciate the immaculate details that Gabaldon puts into her stories.

The characters in this series are perfect in their flaws. Loyal to the bone, Jamie Fraser will never sacrifice anything for the love of is life and his family, not even his pride. The type of torture he endures in this book reminds me much of OUTLANDER. Horrific and gruesome, Gabaldon spares no remorse as she continues to put Jamie through the impossible.

There is one man in particular that definitely added a whole other level of intrigue to this series. John Grey is an immense character that actually becomes one of my favorites. Reading his POV allowed me to understand his motivation. But what was most interesting about him was the fact that he didn’t seem all that bad. Some of my favourite parts of the book were from Grey’s POV because we saw a fresh perspective on Jamie that we don’t usually see with Claire of even Jamie’s POV.

I teared up countless times while reading this book. As I said, Gabaldon forces you to experience her books and no matter how hard you try, it’s impossible not to feel the longing, the pain, or the torment of each character. There is one scene in particular that embodies this entire book. Without revealing spoilers, I can safely say that everything led up to that one point for me and it was as glorious and emotional as I expected, becoming worth the wait.

If you want to try this series but are daunted by the size, try it anyway because you won’t be disappointed by Gabaldon’s writing. Her words are cinematic and stunning in their details.
