Review: To Taste Temptation by Elizabeth Hoyt

Samuel Hartley has come to London to search for a traitor, he is haunted by the massacre at Spinners Fall and is determined to find out who caused it and got so many good men tortured and killed. What Samuel didn’t expect to find was Lady Emeline Gordon, his delectable neighbour and also sister to one of the men killed in Spinners Fall. I am really glad I have read this series out of order because I really enjoyed immensely the second and third book of Legend of the Four Soldiers, where as this book, the first in the series, I found very hard to warm to, it never really captured my attention like other books by Elizabeth Hoyt have.

I think a lot of my apathy is due to the fact that I didn’t like the heroine very much, she was very hot and cold with Samuel and I found myself getting frustrated with her even when I did understand the reason behind her decisions. As for the hero, although he was of course gorgeous, he didn’t really stand out to me like some of Elizabeth Hoyt’s other heroes have.

What I did like about this book though was the fairy tale told at the beginning of the chapter which runs parallel to the story being told. I know she does this through out this series and it is fits in with the books really well, and is another story thread that binds all the books in this series together. The story of the traitor is also one that run through the series and I need to get my hands on the last book so I can finally find out who it is!

Although I did find myself getting bored reading this book, I know that the next two books in the series are excellent and well worth reading, so I would recommend you give this one a try so you can get to those.
