”ย I found that when I wasnโ€™t listening to the audiobook, I was thinking about what was going to happen and if thatโ€™s not a sign of an engaging read, then I donโ€™t know what is.”

This series has been on my radar for years but I finally got to it and I have to say, I wasnโ€™t expecting to like it as much as I did. While I do still have some issues with her, the story was one that I couldnโ€™t get out of my head. I found that when I wasnโ€™t listening to the audiobook, I was thinking about what was going to happen and if thatโ€™s not a sign of an engaging read, then I donโ€™t know what is.

THE SELECTION is very much like The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games. In a world where there are many long-suffering people, Prince Maxon is looking to find a happily ever after. When they open up a lottery of sorts to all eligible bachelorettes to enter to win the princeโ€™s heart, itโ€™s a opportunity that America Singer cannot let pass. She doesnโ€™t expect to win, but that doesnโ€™t stop her from trying when the former love of her life decides that he no longer wants her anymore.

Surprisingly, thereโ€™s a lot of heartbreak and emotion in this story. Iโ€™m not a huge fan of the world. Itโ€™s too depressing for me and I would never want to live in this world myself, but for the story, it does make for an interesting world to explore.

Out of all the characters in the story America is one of the best. Although she is far from perfect, she is probably the most grounded. Prince Maxon grew on me as the book progressed. I liked that he seemed to want the best for her and didnโ€™t force her to stay like I expected him too. I suspect a romance will bloom beautifully between them.

Thereโ€™s also Aspen who I actually really liked in the beginning. But his actions and decisions later on in the book kind of made me regret that. While I understand where he is coming from, it can come across as melodramatic to some readers. But all in all, THE SELECTION is an engaging read that will have fans begging for more.

If you can listen to the audio version of this book, I would highly recommend it. The narrator does a superb job of bringing these characters to life and I look forward to listening to the second book in the series.
