The romance in this book is so well done that you could probably stick a fork in it and voila! It’s a feast for readers. Lane will take you through a full range of emotions and every second is worth it. ~ Under the Covers

THE LOCKER ROOM could quite possibly be my favorite Amy Lane book. And I say that with great hesitation since all of the books I’ve read by Lane have been 4 stars or higher. But this love story between Xander and Chris is phenomenal and I think every M/M author can take away a lot from this book. Lane does everything right.

The book starts off with a look into Xander’s rough childhood. He’s mother doesn’t care for him, instead only taking care of her man of the day and leaving Xander to fend for himself. The only thing that Xander has is his basketball which he uses as an escape. His talent is noticed by Chris, another avid basketball player and one day they have a friendly one-on-one game when Chris’s mother is late from picking him up. From there, the sweetness and the heartbreak begins.

Lane doesn’t hold back with this book. Chris and Xander fall deeply in love but it isn’t always easy. As with a lot of athletes, they are faced with scrutiny in the public eye and it only worsens when their coach is a homophobe.

Xander and Chris are so easy to like. They will have you laughing and crying with both their stories. However, the one thing I love most about this book is probably the sports theme. I used to be a basketball fanatic and was pretty loyal to my team until we began sucking so hard (so much for being loyal) so I don’t know why it took me so long to read this. You see a lot of sports romances but I don’t see too many focusing on basketball. This book reminded me of why I loved the game and I felt like I could relate and understand Xander and Chris’s devotion to the game.

Not only does their love for the game run deep, but the romance in this book is so well done that you could probably stick a fork in it and voila! It’s a feast for readers. Lane will take you through a full range of emotions and every second is worth it. This book reminded me of why I love reading M/M so much.

There is no question about it. I would definitely recommend this read to those who love M/M and sports romances. There’s not much out there that gets better than this.
