The Last Girl felt more like someone writing down their vampire rape fantasy. ~ Under the Covers
I have been looking forward to reading The Last Girl it has had lots of good reviews and after reading Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas, which although was disturbing I really enjoyed, I thought I knew what to expect. But I was wrong. I didn’t like this.
This book and Comfort Food are essentially the same story only this has a paranormal twist. Normal girl gets kidnapped, her kidnapper abuses her in all ways possible but the girl submits and starts to like and crave it. However, where in Comfort Food I felt like it was interesting; an exploration of the victims feelings and sensations whilst trying to cope with her experiences and ultimately being broken (or maybe set free?) by them? The Last Girl felt more like someone writing down their vampire rape fantasy.
I guess there is nothing wrong with that, apparently rape fantasies are one of womankind’s most frequent sexual fantasies and obviously you can’t have BDSM with out sadism, think of the poor masochists?! But, I get the feeling that this wasn’t supposed to be a vampire rape fantasy, but more of an exploration of someones psyche as they slowly get broken down and start loving and hating their abuse and abuser.
This book just wasn’t to my taste, hence the low rating, it made me uncomfortable, but not in a way that made me think as other books have, just uncomfortable and although I may try another Kitty Thomas book, I may have to leave it for a while!
My review of Comfort Food is HERE if you want to take a peek!

Thanks Suz!
I totally felt the same way about this book. The author is in a BDSM relationship in real life from what I have seen. That part doesn’t bother me, but it was basically a rape book with a victim that has Stockholm Syndrome. The author writes well, it just wasn’t content I enjoyed. She did warn me before I read it though, lol.
I am glad I am not the only one! I kept seeing reviews saying hot hot Christian was and how they really liked it…I thought I was missing something lol! Yeah, I thought I would be okay as I had read her before and I do like her writing style even in this book, I just couldn’t get along with the storyline, maybe it was just too out there for me!! Lol I could have done with a warning as well 😀

Thanks for the review Suz.
