Jumping in to read The Infinite Sea was imminent after reading The 5th Wave. I just couldn’t get enough of Rick Yancey’s post-apocalyptic world. Lucky for me, I didn’t have to wait as it has already been out for some time. The downside, I have to wait for The Last Star, which will not release until May 24th, 2016. I’m sure it will be worth the wait.
Even better than the first installment, The Infinite Sea is a page turner. The fifth wave of the alien attack continues to terrorize the remaining humans on earth. It’s not just a matter of killing them but how they are doing is the hardest part. Yancey reveals more of who the others are and what they want, if you haven’t figured that out from The 5th Wave, you will understand a bit more here. Yancey didn’t neglect to keep things interesting. The plot thickens, there are more twists to the story and it didn’t lack any suspense or action. Not to mention the feelings of “is this character going to die” and that feeling of “nooo, that can’t happen”. Yancey kept me guessing at every turn.
I enjoyed the Multiple POVs in this installment. Getting into each of the characters’ heads especially Evan Walker was very interesting. I loved hearing his voice and what he was thinking. Unfortunately, due to circumstances in the book, I just didn’t get enough of him. Cassie got her fair share of page time. She is with her brother, Zombie and his crew trying to figure out what to do next. Seeing them go through this chaos was still hard for me. It breaks my heart knowing they are all kids forced in this predicament. I do love that despite the situation, they rise to the occasion.
There was a bit more focus on Ringer in this book. She came through loud and clear and took the stage. You get to know how she became a hardass, and she stays true to her character; kickass to the core. There was a hint of romance for Ringer, and I have to say, it brought me to tears. I have a feeling there will be more in the next book.
I would’ve liked to see more of Cassie and Evan but, I know I can’t get ahead of myself; this is a young adult after all. Excuse the romance reader in me; I can’t help myself. But in the dark world, Yancey had created there should be some kind of hope for the characters. I do have a feeling that Yancey will bring on a bit of a love triangle in the next book to keep his reader on their toes.
Overall, This series is such a great read. I’m encouraging to make The Fifth Wave series a parent/teen buddy read. Not only will it be enjoyable for both sides but can be excellent discussion starter on so many subjects.

Sometimes I like coming in to a series late because you don’t have to wait for the next books to be released
