“Just like The Kiss of Deception, The Heart of Betrayal is a Top Pick for me. Ask me for a YA/Fantasy recommendation, and this series will be what I will recommend first.”
~ Under the Covers
The Heart of Betrayal starts shortly after The Kiss of Deception had ended. In the hands of their enemy, Lia and Rafe are now in the Kingdom of Venda. More specifically, Kaden’s people who also hates their kingdoms. The plan is to use them as leverage to gain power. Lia and Rafe will have to do whatever it takes to survive this captivity even if it means turning on each other. Survival will be their main goal.
Lia’s character continue to grow, mature and I truly love who she has become. I love that she came to know the people of Venda and had an open mind to understand them. Her power grew stronger and I enjoyed the unfolding of the history of the feuding Kingdoms, Venda specifically.
Rafe and Kaden played their roles well. There was a brief time when I almost switch teams, not that you couldn’t tell who Lia will end up with at the end of the book. Both men are definitely swoon worthy heroes. I still can’t predict where Ms. Pearson will take this book but I’m hoping no matter Lia’s choice, I hope both men will get their HEA in the end.
Pearson bumps up the suspense and the romance in this installment. I found myself at the edge of my seat especially the last quarter of the book. The multiple POVs were enjoyable to me. I love hearing all their voices which made me fall for all of the characters. I don’t think there was a character I didn’t like, villains included. The Komizar, who lead Venda even had his moments. There is a play for a love triangle but the reader knows who Lia picks by the end of the book. There will be loss and heartbreak but it strengthens the lead characters as well as the book as a whole.
I could not get enough of this book, I am so in love with the world Pearson had created here. Every bit of reveal of this world, it’s history, and the possibilities of where it’s going had me turn the pages none stop. Just like The Kiss of Deception, The Heart of Betrayal is a Top Pick for me. Ask me for a YA/Fantasy recommendation, and this series will be what I will recommend first.
